There is a formula to calculate exactly when the patch will be out...
Time to Patch = (Year/365) * 7 /as long as it takes
Hope this was helpful.

Maybe the new features completely overwrite the old features that were bugged. ;)

I'm praying they actually test this properly, else we'll have old bug + poor bugfies + new bugs due to new content.

Well as long as they really put effort into this patch.... sounds like their doing a hell of alot :p
Id be happy to wait a month if i knew this was the final patch, with lots of bug fixes and new content ;)

Steve, such a pessimest (sp?).
I took their 'note' to mean not only are we addressing the known issues were going to throw in some extras too.
"Lets WOW them with this patch".....
There.... glass is half full :p

I for one am willing to give them the chance to show us what they can do before just closing the door on them.
From past postings and info from them on this message board, I am guessing they are adding all the extra stuff as a way to say thanks for the support that we've shown them in the past.
I would think if they read this thread, I would not surprised if they slowed down and just think, "What's the point".
Lets all give them the support and see what they come out with. You can always complain after it's out. No point in complaining about it before it's even released.
I have faith. After all, they are not Infrograms (now Atari) where they acquire a great title (B17: TME) and just slam the door on the fans the next day by refusing any support or patches. GT182 knows what I'm talking about.
2 weeks it is !

Huzzah! Here's hoping all the really important bugs get fixed and the new features don't introduce any new and/or worse bugs.
In case any SH4 devs are reading the forums here: while we're all happy to hear that 1.3 is on the way sooner rather than later, I'm sure most of us agree that we'd rather you take all the time you need to get things right. Although we're all anxious for the patch, please don't feel the need to rush! :D

I have to put in my half full comment just to help balance out the hundreds of half empty comments this thread will attract.

Is anyone else NOT seeing an announcement on the official SH4 web site?

Let them take their time... those of us who love this sim, im sure will be more than appreciative no matter how long it takes. Like I have posted before, no one likes doing a job twice!. Appreciative customers go a hell of a long way, toward a good end result.
Please, lets not allows this forum to become like so many other dead end whiney forums, with unappreciative users with no respect for people who do the hard yards.
And to the guys/gals working on the 1.3 patch project at UBi, thanks a ton team, you will be putting a smile on a lot of gamers :sunny:

The following is the text of July's PCGamer's Letter of the Month (UK Version):
Title: Who's to blame ?
I'm turning to your illustrious organ for answers. I want to know who's accountable. For what? Well, OFCOM, the Banking Ombudsman and the Police Complaints Commision are all governing bodies that preside over and review the actions of the people who make up their working 'community'. These companies handle complaints, liaise with the public and vet products, procedures and complaints. Products is in italics because thats at the hub of my question. When a PC game is almost ready but they release it anyway and rely on post-sale patches, who agrees to this concept? What governing body decides it's right to sell 90 percent of a product with the rest to come via your internet connection?
I'm sick of it. The latest outrageously 'unready' game to hit streets is Silent Hunter 4. The bugs and crashes are gargantuan in number. The game's totally unplayable. Random crew deaths, random damage and random happenings at sea are making life a misery. You all know as well as I do that a game doesn't crash at a point that pleases you, oh no! With SH4, it waits until you've sunk a Carrier Task Force, a tanker, a fisherman and a University Boat Race entry before spewing out your game and asking you to submit an 'error report'.
I've not encountered the same level of frustration as the letter's author (name withheld but buy the mag and you'll see it there), and I know there are mods available to improve playability but I can understand the author's frustration, and hence question. The fact that it is 'letter of the month' is also quite interesting.
Anyway, make of it what you will and lets hope Patch 1.3 addresses most, if not all, the issues people are encountering....lets face it, the more people who play sub sims the bigger the player market and thus the greater the possibility of future sub sim games. With this in mind, it is in UBI's best interests to 'develop' the market rathere than 'frustrate' it.
And yes, I do expect a bit of a flaming even though this is an on topic informational post....such is the nature of theseforums nowadays :nope:

It's a harsch world out there, to be true.
Developers have an idea for an awesome game and have high ambitions. They present the idea to the Publishers. Publishers go OOOH $$$!!! and fund the project.
The Developers work their asses off to create this awesome game, and all the while the Publishers stand there behind them, whipping said asses to hurry up. In the end, Publishers have no understanding that programming games and testing and ironing out bugs is a long time job and is a MUST DO. They don't give a damn. Instead they say: Release the game already!!! And the Developers go: Um, it's not ready yet. You'll just infuriate the gamers! Publishers: STFU! I can see the boat underwater in awesome graphics, that's all we need. SALE!!! $$$
And here we are with a half assed product thanks to Publishers not giving Developers a chance to actually do their job. Instead, Publishers heave in money on pre-orders and then the Developers have to work their asses off AGAIN to actually finish off the product with something as inefficient as "patches".
I, for one, extend my arms in gratitude and support to the Developers. They've done one hell of a job on this game. And to the Publishers I'd like to offer a brand new spanking Mark 14 that will prematurely detonate up their ass for what they've done to us simmers.
Go patch 1.3! Go Developers! *cheers*

That review was based on an un-patched version.
I belive the first patch was avail almost as soon as the product hit the shelves.
This is what you get when a arbitrary and artifical 'deadline' is forced. "Get the product on the shelves, we dont care if its finished or not !"

Agreed! I feel we barely managed to get this patch and its most likely the last . Therefore its got to be as complete and bug free as possible. There will most likely not be another one to fix what this one breaks so before its released take your time and TEST THE CRAP OUT OF IT!! Give us and the Mods as 'complete' a game as possible.

I agree. I think it probably will be the last patch. I also think that it will be a larger patch than the previous two because of that. It won't please everybody, but it will put the game where it should have been at release in my view.

How big will these three patches total I wonder?
Will they stamp out a few thousand DVD's with all three patches on one game DVD?
Some people will never be able to update a patch that big.
This problem has probably already been adressed at UBI ... :yep:
If a patch gets too big for DSL, they have the option of releasing it in parts. They'll work it out. They always have. The radar sample looks GREAT!

I hope they fix the lag during time compression
This has been around since SH3. Worse yet, the higher the compression, the longer it will take for your watch to spot a ship.
I remember The Avon Lady did an experiment back in SH3. The time it took for the TC to drop to 1 and report the contact was delayed significantly at higher compressions. From I've seen this hasn't been addressed totally.
I don't know why the game doesn't scale back its CPU usage when a ship has the possibility of closing your path. At least then the game would be more responsive to drop the TC and give you enough warning when a contact is spotted.
