I played a couple of patrols from dec '41 to may '42 yesterday, and I recieved some radiotraffic to and from BdU that was hilarious :) Whomever put together the German language radiotraffic file - well done, mate!
It seems to be the English version is missing some of the funnier, more atmospheric messages, so if you have a fair grasp of German perhaps use that file instead.
Anywho - I just gotta share a couple of the best exchanges so far.
1. Reinhard Hardegen reporting his kills after Drumbeat, the German text is in my sig and a horrible mistranslated English text would be something like:
""Seven Tankers was beaten asunder,
the U-Falle sank haulers.
Two Freighters is resting at the bottom,
Sunk by Drum Beats."
- Reinhard Hardegen, U-123
Who knew there were aspiring poets among the Uboat commanders? :rotfl:
2. This little exchange between BdU and Cremer aboard U-333 is entertaining, you can just taste the doh-factor.
19420201, 1700: Wer hat im Quadrat BE78 einen Dampfer torpediert? Sofort melden! BdU
Who has torpedoed a Steamer in BE 78? Report at once! BdU
19420201, 1801: Deutscher Dampfer "Spreewald" funkt SOS in BE78. Um 17 Uhr DGZ wurde torpediert. Brennt und sinkt. BdU
German Steamer Spreewald is transmitting SOS in BE 78. Was torpedoed at 1700 German Summer Time. Burning and sinking. BdU
19420201, 1820: Habe in Quadrat BE78 auf Weg Anton einwandfrei feindlichen Dampfer versenkt. Zickzack um Generalkurs 60 Grad. Unterwasserangriff. Ein Treffer 1700 Ato. Schiff stoppt. Zweiter Angriff mit letztem Torpedo ETO.1800 Uhr Treffer. Schiff sinkt. U-333 Cremer
Have sunk a hostile Steamer in BE 78. Zig Zag along course 60 Degrees. Underwater attack. One hit 17:00 approx. Ship stopped. Second attack with last torpedo approx 18:00. Hit. Ship sinks. U-333 Cremer
19420201, 1840: Cremer, Sie haben den deutschen Dampfer "Spreewald" versenkt, Sie Idiot! BdU
Cremer, you have sunk the German Steamer "Spreewald", you Idiot! BdU
:damn:
