More newbie questions im afraid.

Hi, when on some missions why do the armed trawlers and escorts start shooting each other ? Also why are there planes being shot down over some of the convoys ?

are these to add realism to the game or are they bugs ?

How do i know if i im up to date with the patches ? Ive not dl any and am playing straight out of the box.

Hi and Wilkommen zum Subsim!

The AI gets target fixation and is very indiscriminate. If you or another enemy craft is on the surface and a friendly gets in the way they will go at one another until one of them is dead. This is stock behaviour and is kind of an unavoidable bug based on the inaccuracy of the weapons.

You can DL the latest patches 1.04 is the latest IIRC and is needed if you want to use one of the super mods. Get NYGM, WAC or GWX or all three. If you hang around here long enough you should become an expert in no time.

1.4b is the latest patch for stock SH3 BUT if you have just bought SH3, start the game and check in the bottom right corner of the main menu to see the version number. Some of the discs currently available are already patched.

If not already patched you can DL them from http://silenthunteriii.com/uk/updates.php

Make sure that you don't load any mods before you patch otherwise you'l have to reinstall and delete the SHIII directory in MyDocuments

Before you get to far into the game, now is the time to patch up to 1.4b and download the GWX mod also.

When you have DL'd GWX?:-?

I assume so:

Basic Install of GWX

1) Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2) Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3) Reinstall SH3
4) If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5) OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6) Visit the GWX homepage (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/GWX/) and download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7) Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9) SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Visit the GWX homepage (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/GWX/) and download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

FYI, your previous careers will NOT be compatible with GWX. Time to start fresh.
