View Full Version : WARNING: Rant about Pac news!

I would like to know what is so important about Pac news that it must set time compression to 1. Here I am in an S boat trying to get from the Luzon Strait to fremantle at 4 knots so I have enough fuel to get there, and every 2 minutes (if that much) compression gets set to one so I can read about coffee rationing or some other half baked humor that I read the last campaign and the campaign before that, but please make sure I have plan my approach carefully and save the game before going in because compression surely then won't stop as you race to press the end patrol selection on the menu. This game does so much right, but has so many annoying things I am about to quit playing until 1.3 comes out.

I think the Trigger Maru mod alleviates some of this nonsense...or am I mistaken? :hmm:

There is a cfg file someplace where you can set what drops you out of TC, and to what level of TC. So you could take pac news set to drop TC to "1" and set it to drop it to 4096, or whatever.

I bet it's in the SH4 folder inside "My Documents" on your PC.

I will have to find that. I hope there is something I can find for close radio sightings too, because that I would like to drop that to 1 instead of 8.

I'm grumpy about this issue today:). I have yet to see one thing I needed to know from Pac news, could someone point out an example? Even Fox is borderline, but at least it will tell you something like the Darwin area is hot with enemy air power.

that is from COMSUBSOWESPAC or other operational area not Pac news. All these messages are in a message file in campaign/messages. I am thinking of whacking most of the lines in that file. I think I am getting grumpy about the game because I have been getting a series of fuel stretcher missions.

Still enjoying the game, but I have to agree with the fuel stretcher remark. I spend half my playing time watching that blip go across the screen. TC above 1024 is useless on my rig.

Go into the SH4 folder inside "My Documents." Dig down and you'll see a bunch of cfg files, one is "main.cfg." There is a block in there related to TC. Radio contacts sets it to 8, change it to what you like. I note that the FOX traffic is not there though. Not sure which (or if any) controls that.

This is a classic case of damned if you do, damned if you don't.

With SH3 there was no radio traffic unless you sent in a report and all you got back wat "BE MORE AGGRESSIVE" or "KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK". That's it.

This, of course, was met with much crying, gnashing of teeth and rending of garments about how the devs released an unfinished game and thank heavens for our modders that at least they know how to fix the game they way it should have been in the first place.

So the devs listen to the community and put in lots of radio traffic in SH4, to give you the feeling of being there and that you are part of a wider war, and now people are complaining about that!

Heheh. The problem is that the "fox traffic" wasn't released all the time. They did it at night when the boats were more likely to be on the surface. Then they'd repeat the same message.

The game should make ONE fox commo per night.

Strange I only see like two or three of these per patrol.

My patrols usually last a couple of weeks. (Five or six missions per patrol).

I AM running the "reduced contacts' mod though I dont think it would affect fox traffic.

I have found that one. I am hoping that for messages it is not hard coded. That would leave the option of deleting lines from the messages file.

lol

It's a spelling mistake by the developers here, based on the line below it (HunterState). It means when you are being hunted by the enemy, time compression will be limited to the valued entered, so in reality it should say "PreyState."

I would like to keep this civil. But please explain what fact? The fact that it does not set compression 1 for just for atmosphere? Do think it should set set compression to 1. The fact you should not say anything about it because it might hurt someone's feelings? What fact?

I think it would be an excellent idea to keep things civil.

The fact he was refering to is the eternal truth that, no matter what the developers do, someone is not going to like it.

That's all.

As far as TC resets go, that is a pretty easy fix, and has been documented many times on this and other boards.

Thank you. And as a developer I agree, but in practice I do think I have ever completed a project, I do business development by the way, I have ever completed a project to a clients satisfaction. My attitude has always been the client is the one who was to use the program. By the way dispite complaints I get I still like being a developer, you think sim users complain, try businesses.

As for the fix I am trying to fix it, I have been looking on the boards for a fix. If you know where on the boards, a hint would be appreciated. Someone here has suggested trigger maru. I admit I have not searched the forum for "TIME COMPRESSION" or "TC" which I will do shortly.

There are several mods in the forum that limit radio traffic by range. I can't remember which one I'm using, but the traffic is a lot less. HOWEVER, My gripe is at least BDU told you to return to base when you were out of trops. Hell, I send a statis report saying I got nothing to kill ships with and they send me after a convoy. Go Figure. :damn: :rotfl:

I will be tried for War Crimes. I got tried of trying to go to TC and my sonar or radar man kicks me out of TC because of life boats and rafts. Now I just kill them all and then no problem with TC. I wish someone could mount a 50 cal on my bridge so I wouldn't have to use up so much 20 mm....I wonder, do I lose renown for guning down saliors in life rafts? I quit running over them because it sounds like you have hit something Big. :rotfl: :rotfl: :sunny:
