View Full Version : Participate & get Bigger Tonnage!
BDU's LIVE intelligence department is off and running (Check out the Spinnenetz sticky).
As you look in the intelligence map, it will reveal several areas where the hunting is good. This is thanks to the reports sent by U-Boot Komandants Canovaro, Cranky, Mohr, & Brag.
There are still large areas of Atlantic ocean not yet covered. When enough Kaleuns start performing their intelligence duties, you will no longer cruise for weeks without contacts in the middle of the ocean.
Kaleuns! Your contact reports are needed. So get your pencils out of your you know what and report contacts (easy to follow instructions in the Spinnenetz sticky).
Areas in need of reports:
Areas west of the North Channel (lots of solo merchies & convoys there)
Rockall Bank
Vicinity of Azores
Tanker routes Aruba-England
Cape Verdes vicinity
Convoy routes Freetown-Saint George's Channel
Cape Sao Vicente-Saint George's Channel
Here is the guide for accurate, 4 digit position location:
http://uboat.net/maps/images/grid_quad_41.gif
Read about it here (http://uboat.net/maps/grid.html)
I keep a sheet of paper where I have copied this quadrant next to the computer. The moment I have a contact, I enter the two letters and four numbers indicating position of contact into my log (a notebook), then proceed with the business of attacking. Sometime later, I send my email with all the contact reports to BDU via Email.
It is satisfying to look at the intelligence chart and see your reports (with proper credits) posted.
Kplt Carnovaro, BDU Chief of Intelligence responds quickly!
Everyone pitch in, onward to victory.!!

How do they work out the last 2 digits?:hmm::88)
For instance from the uboat forum:
Each smaller grid within the main quadrants (like the "56" inside AE) was then further broken down into smaller elements to enable the Kriegsmarine to use designations like AE 5619 (shaded grid).
Reykjavík, in the map above, is located in grid AE 4874.
The entire world was mapped like that, including areas that never saw any Kriegsmarine operations.
AE 4874.
Well yeah i know where the AE48 is coming from but where they get the 74?

If you look at the quadrant above --assume the contact is on the upper left corner of BE39 , it would be BE3911
Upper right corner: BE3933
Lower right corner BE3989
Lower left corner BE3977
The quadrant is divided in 9 sectors, each sector having a main number (the third number in the address, then divided further into nine secors (the fourth number in the address.:D

In the picture shown, the letters aren't there, but the coordinates are 5619. That's how it works.

I've been trying to get to the lesser known areas but I always seem to pass through grid BE3x, and I usually find something to waste all my eels on there :D
I intend to go NW of the Azores and near Iceland but so far they keep foiling my schemes by sending convoys my way.
I'll get there eventually though, by 1943 or something :-?
I'll also dig out u-46 with my crazy gung-ho Kaleun Hans Brix again in 39 and don't do tours around Britain anymore but go to the North Atlantic like I'm supposed to.
Ooh, lookie: Sudoku!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Jokes aside, this is an exellent thing! Please fellow kaleuns: Give your brothers at sea the much needed intelligence!

More Kaleuns are joining the brotherhood already!
Even got a message or two in Enigma. Highly recommended but please read website for that ;)

There's also a form available for download on the Spinnennetz website, but you can indeed make your own. ;)
I myself leave the headquarters for a dive now and then again, but atm I don't have enough renown for a IX to do a long trip, which is something we definitely need.
But I am off to Freetown in a VIIc, so who knows...
Ooh, lookie: Sudoku!

The first kaleun to call it 'Operation Sudoku' will be shot

I got from grid AE to grid AL tonight, nothing going on, but it's early in the war yet, weather wasn't universally bad (for october that is) still, nothing going on for now.
will continue tomorrow, now It's bedtime
Good hunting one and all
oh and a contact report that doesn't belong on the map but might be interesting to some;)
U-5 reports:
5 Oktober 1939
Biologic: Dolphins
Neutral
AN483 just on the border with AN49
NW/280
GWX

What? but Brag? don't you look around when restocking on eels, diesel and sangria in Cadiz?:D
I've seen them there in the harbor repeatedly, also in the Canaries, they make strange twittery noises on the hydrophone

Brag, it's a good idea to explain about the grid system.
I missed this explanation on the webiste. Now it's there as well. Hope this will make it more clear.
Good move!
Ok, Kaleuns: Pitch in, visit the Spinnetz site, send your reports and you will soon reap the rewards.
