View Full Version : Tried the TII's

I have to say, I was quite impressed with them, I used them in a daylight attack I was submerged inside the convoy (later went back at night and done a surface run) and they all hit their targets, they took longer to get there than a T1 but I'd say during daylight hours the TII is a fine piece of kit. 44 knots vs 30 knots is what we are saying really... T1 has speed and less chance of being dodged. But the TII is just pure stealth isn't it?

U forgot the option of Gas, elec torps and Deck gun together, I use all of it, also, Flak gun on ships, Ram on ships Dance with the escorts, RAF accidently bombin their own ships cuz Im to close to them, etc,

I perfer T I s, because their range, speed, and higher hit rate for me, I don't care if it leave a stupid trail.

I'm with Lagger,
I like the T1 and don't worry about the bubbles and trail. I usually try to make the attack within 800 meters to keep the Ship from being able to make an emergency manuver.....works for me

I like them all as long as they sink targets. Can;t say I've noticed an appreciable difference between the different types if you get in close and sink them.

I always load TI's into tubes 1 and 3 and and TII's into tubes 2 and 4. A few TII's are packed into the front reserves, so I can use a torpedo depending on the situation (weather, type of target, ...). For the aft tubes I only use TI's for emergency shots at approaching destroyers, if it becomes really necessary ;).
I like the stealth of TII's in many situations too but for fast moving targets it also increases the chance to hit if using a torpedo which travels 50% faster than the other.
But alltogether, I use both of them.

Two thirds of my loadout are TII, the other ones I keep for fast moving targets.
Remember:
TII = stealth
uboat = stealth
So that's the way I go!

Happy hunting!:arrgh!:

T2's will not give away your position when attacking a convoy, so I don't even use T1's anymore.

I load up nothing but T-2s and been getting excellent results. :smug:

1939 - All T1's

1940 - 90% T1 10% T2

1941 - All T2's

And when T3 comes out I switch to them 100%

PS: I could not vote as there was no option for both.

I was going to vote for T2's but I don't use them exclusivly.
Once in a while I let the crew play with the new Pumkin Gun on deck.
Quite the interesting chamber to barrel ratio :arrgh!:

I prefer to load my stern tube (VIIC  ) with T2's. It's really helpful with the 'down the throat shots' I sometimes have to shoot. I usually save the bow T2's for nailing escorts. Just ran into a 12 ship convoy at AM51 that had a V&W and flower for escorts. Took them out, surfaced, sent a contact report & proceded to shoot the fish in the barrel until I ran out of all eels and rounds.. Pumped the last starshells & flak ammo in a Coastal.

Great Poll!!

Depends...
For night attack I love the T1, I like them for taking care of convoys too. For day attack or close distances I like the TII. They don't know what hit them. :arrgh!:

I'm a good little kaleun; I use what I'm issued.

after 41 in the med, I only use electrics maybe take 1 or 2 steamers for that long distance shot at a cruiser at night.

t2s after 41 and as soon as the t3 is available I don't take any steamers anymore until the homing and fat ones are available

I'm surprised with what I see here! I was expecting TII's and the III varient to be the main choice.

not before late 1940, too many duds/quirks/depth problems, especially before Norway when I don't use them at all, or maybe bring only 2 even in a IXb. but from late 40 onwards they're ever more useful:D

for type II uboats only steamers, ever, (except in the black sea of course, only tIIIs there) you need that range the T1 gives you because of not being able to catch up on anything :-?

T1 are more dependable but I use TIIs later in the war because I want to live...

Yup that about sums it up :) Unless I'm going to faraway places from '41 onwards its TIIs in all internal spaces, but keeping with realism I only keep steamers in the external holds tough.

But until I have to switch, the TI with the flexibility of hitting targets simultaniously by playing with the speed settings is a great plus.

I've not managed to get past 1940 alive yet, so bare this in mind for the following comments...

I've only once had a problem with T1s, where a Destroyer saw the bubble trail and manouvered, spoiling my shot. However, I've had no end of problems with T2s. They bounce off hulls, their mag pistols don't work, and they're more likely to detonate prematurely...

In fact, I blame T2s for all my sinkings to date. It's nothing to do with my Captaincy or Bernard at all... :hmm:

I carry a mix of T1's and T2's at the moment, when the T3's come along I will most likely go for a boat full of them. I also prefer using my deck gun for any targets of oppertunity that may crop up that won't pump me full of lead when I order battle surface!:arrgh!:

If you play at least 85% realism (only contacts on, for some reason this turns into 100% in my GWX) you will notice no big difference in most kinds of ships because you will want to get really close (1500m close) prior to shoot. In some costal vessels T2 are more effective during daytime because these ship increase speed enough so you miss them, if they see the bubbles. Larger ship tend to decrease speed instead.

I prefer the T1 because of it's tremdous speed. T3 can be dodge to easily and if I'm so close that range and low speed don't matter, the visible trail of T1 is not dramatic

In a VII's I used 2 TI's and 2 TII's for frontal assault. Destroyers I pop off with the TII when there cruising onlong baking in the sun. I keep TI's in the rear just incase a destroyer tries to flank me.

In a IX I do the same for the front and mix for the rear. If they can't see whats hitting them the better for me!

My load out is 75% TI's and 25% TII's. Give or take a torpedo.

But I always try to use the deck gun against a merchant ship even at armed trawlers. Always ATTACK!

Whats wrong with old threads, they still contain pretty good info.

Electrics all the way !!! I have enough trouble keeping myself from being spotted without a trail of bubbles pointing directly at me.

Once T2's are out I'm jummping for joy... no more wakes pointing at me... I know the allies are dumb but they cant miss this?
