View Full Version : Friendly radio contact, blue square

So I'm playing a campaign with 100% realism (so no map updates) and I just received what I'm guessing is a radio report of a friendly ship 155 nautical miles to my south east. It's a blue square, and if I select it it says:
Time: 11:00
Type: Ship
Course: ENE
Speed: Slow
Does anyone know what this means exactly? Am I supposed to do something about it? Is it a distress call and I'm supposed to go help them maybe? Or are they just alerting me to their presence so I don't blow them out of the water if I happen to run into them?

Im not sure if theres anything you can do with them... but I have shadowed one for a fair distance. As far as can tell they are just there for greater game immersion.
Im guessing if they are tasked with a certain battle.. one of the historic encounters, you may see them tangoing with Jap ships.... I havn't found a battle of this type myyself. Maybe someone with more game hours has seen it?

It is a contact report to alert you to their presence. If you wanted you could sink them, but that would be the end of your career.
If they are somewhat close to my course I sometimes use them to practice set-up proceedures for maunual firing.
If they are warships and the run across enemy, warships they will attack.

I got in amongst an allied fleet once and used them as air cover. I soon realized though at the rate of speed they were traveling that fuel consumption was prohibitive so we dropped back and never saw any action.

Be interesting though if there was an attack while you were doing this, be quite a show I am sure :yep:

I have recieved allied air cover once when I radioed in a contact report. In fact the response directed me to pursue the DD's and "other assets" would be assigned the merchants.
I dident really belive it but what the heck I pursued the DD's when all of a sudden the mercs started blowing up around me ! Sure enough american dive bombers !
edit; typo its me not em :)
