So Herr Oberleutnant Waldemar Wolgast of the U-101 did his 13th and last patrol today. His best patrol, sinking four large merchants for 38k tons... until a new and unknown quantity interfered: a Town class destroyer escorting two merchants in deep water north of cape verde, December 20th, 1940.
He couldn't be shaken off, and U-101 was eventually forced to surface, missing with all last-ditch torpedo shots and barely taking out one gun turret with the deck gun. No surrender.
Rest in peace. 24 ships sunk, 109766 tons. 1 aircraft shot down.
