Hello Shipmates,

Aside from the obvious AA employment (which seems to work ok for me) - has anyone found a way to persuade the chaps manning the 20mm, .50s etc to fire upon surface targets, particularly Sampans, picket boats and the like? Currently am doing this 'by hand' for targets not worth a fish or deck gun ammo - works a treat,- would be nice to get the virtual crew involved in this though :hmm:

While I'm about it - does anyone know of a keystroke to request a radar bearing to target, i do get the odd update from the operator, but would be handy to have a 'bearing to nearest' type command like with the sonar.

Apologies in advance if this has already been covered, I don't get in here as often as i would like.

All the best and have a great weekend - wherever you may be!

No they will only target Aircraft with there Anti Aircraft guns. Go figure.

Ive tried myself to shoot up a Sampan with the AA gun but it doesent do much.

Really? Try the last training mission in the RFB mod. It'll show you how well AA guns make swiss cheese of sampans and junks.

Under 1000yds I find the twin 20mm (operated manually)very useful on Sampans - only a few accurate bursts and they catch fire, -
historically I believe this was the main use of the US Subs light weapons - lets face it, in reality one would avoid like the plague a shoot out with such a fast stable weapons platform as an aircraft -real last ditch stuff,
- in his book "Take her Deep" former Admiral 'Pete' Galantin writing about his war patrols in the gato sub Halibut mentions using his AA armament almost exclusively on small surface targets- he sure didn't look to go picking fights with aircraft.

I've got a question I'd like to tag onto this thread...I've seen pics showing an AA gun swiveled around so as the cross hairs are on a member of the watch. I've also tried turning the gun around and seen that it is possible to aim at one member of the watch with your AA gun. Now for my question...if(I haven't tried is b/c I didn't really want to mess with a save and reload) I swivel around and aim at the crew member, then fire, will that watch member be killed or injured? Just curious...anyone tried this?

Yes, I tried shooting a crewman one time just for giggles and to see what would happen....Nothing happened.
