I'd lover to play X3, but refuse the Starforce weighted ball and chain that comes along with it.

I thought they switched to steam though.

Btw most if not all of that stuff is incorperated player mods and little else.

No it doesn't! I too have the game and refused to install it until it was SF free. The latest patch removes SF and the need to use the CD. Now installed and playing.

Steam is the most intrusive and worst service I can think of. I think I'd rather have StarForce on my system! :D

Can you install it without StarForce installing? Last time I checked, these kinds of games installed StarForce, and then removed it later on. StarForce screwed up my system last time I installed it and I'd rather not go through that again. The only thing StarForce devs said to me was, it must be your hardware, not our software, so they were of little help. Pointing out that when StarForce didn't exist, my problems also didn't exist didn't convince them either. You should read my rather lengthy emails with them since they are rather humorous to watch them deny having a problem. Their standard response is that we have similar hardware here and we don't experience the same issues. Nice.

I have a fresh install of Media Center 2005 and I would like to keep it virgin of any StarForce is why I ask.

Yes. You install the game and before you run it, patch to the latest patch. Then you can run the game without the CD. SF is only installed the first time you actually run the game, not during install. Mine is SF free. I wouldn't run anything on my PC with SF.

Yeah starforce is horrible. You can't really blame egosoft for it as it is the distributor/publishers who put that on. (Well that's what Egosoft claim) Here it was Deepsilver. I reinstalled the other day on a clean version of windows and didn't end up getting Starforce installed so just make sure you patch it before loading.

Check out the Xtended mod 7.a as well. It makes X3 a much larger and better experience. They've even added the Terrans plus our planets as sectors.

This is great because it means that in the near future a budget edition of X3 will be available without SF. :yep:
The same thing happened with X2, and I bought it when it was released without the SF protection for 7 €. :p
