It's been a long hard struggle of survival to get this far from the start of the war. But my crew and I have finally made it. (20km north of Utah landing beach)
This has got to be the main event! So many ships already. Has anybody else managed to get themselves in this position before? (GWX 1.03). Any advice?
Of course I really want to bag that big boat in the last pic. I've never sunk a US BB before.
Am I mad?

No, you're not.
Congrats, on having made it that far. :know:
But I would handle this the conservative way...war is almost over, and everyone just wants to go home....alive.
So...be carefull!:yep:

It's a really big and pretty boat though.......................................

Well, go ahead...give it to them one last time.
5 years of experience, haha! :arrgh!:
Attack the BB, and use the convoy to hide.

It is a pretty boat. You should try to sink it :yep:
Can I have your stereo and the other stuff in your locker?

:o whoa!
I haven't seen anyone post on doing this before....
If you do manage to sink that big Battlewagon and manage to get out alive you deserve some sort of special medal and instant retirement to a cushy deskjob somewhere in a bunker in the Bavarian alps where you can rest on your laurels...
Good luck and keep us posted:up:
Been there but didn't sink anything. Got spotted and sunk withing 1 hour of hearing the convoy.
Will try again soon though!

fire one shot at anything and the escorts will be on your like white on rice on a paper plate with a glass of milk in a snow storm! tust me :dead:
the water is too shallow but the targets are tempting... but it will be the end of you i promise.... several days voyage to the nearest water deep enough for evasive maneuvers and there are too many escorts.
Wow,
very nice indeed....
Congrats on a nice career...
Now you did say your prayers, right?

...Ummm if you are/were playing on higher realism levels in shallow water, I would ask if we needed to send the priest now or later.... However, I can see your Freeeeeeee Cameraaaaaaaaaaa, LOL.:arrgh!:

It won't be long before der Onkel will be on the horn ordering all U-boats to throw caution to the wind.

Hmmm, hedge-hogs, advanced sonar, aircraft everywhere, shallow water....
Things are getting tense in here!

Congrats, Hakahura, and go for it! You will keep on regretting it if you don't.
I wonder, is there a list available with al the big operations included in SH3 and GWX?
I know its in the GWXmanual, but is there a simple list with just the dates?

Well I went for it, and crashed my laptop 3 times before I gave up and copied my save games to my desktop. (I'm not a truely hardcore Kaleun I like my comforts, sofa tin of beer ect).
Here's where and when I am

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/3759/n3ki4.jpg
I got into position, the BB was altering couse quite a bit but it's destination was clear. Incredibly stormy weather I did'nt dare select magnetics the Kanal was tossing even the largest boats around like toys. (Impact detonation against a BB:nope: ) As you can see from the map weather claimed many transports and landing craft.

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/2296/n5dd7.jpg
Launched a spread of 4 electrics from about 4500meters and slowly started to turn away. The second I launched every escort in the armarda heard me and the hunter became the hunted.
The minuets ticked by and then

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/1939/n7gg9.jpg
Three out of the four found their mark and that was enough!
This next guy got a bit close so I popped a T5 in his ass. Love them acoustics against escorts!

What next?
I'm currently heading back towards Cherborg silent, (have'nt reloaded any tubes yet) and the nearest DD is about 5km behind me now.
Shall I withdraw and go home letting discretion be the better part of valour?
Or should I reverse course and go in for another bite of the cherry?
I saw at least 2 Cassablanca class carriers in there and loads of cruisers.
Yes I know troop transports and landing craft should be my priority, but my way is more fun.
Plus I would love to see the beaches on June 7th/8th. Will the Mulberry's turn up?
As I said before I'm not that hardcore.... 68% realism, GWX 1.03 SH3 Commander + SH3 Gen.
God I love this War!

Do you have another spread of eels? reload and go back in
Ensure they'll let you into the "great big brass ones" club in valhalla:up:

Plenty more torpedos left (Type IIVC). I've only loosed a total of 5.
4 from the front for the BB and the T5 from the stern for that DD.
Love watching those T5s tracking on the external cam!
I haven't reloaded at this point as I'm sneaking away silently.
Think I will have to head back in, I know a real commander would be more than happy with the BB but this is a game and I'm loving it.

Nice job on the attack...that will surely make them think twice about their plans. :arrgh!:
If you haven't already, don't forget to radio a contact report back to HQ! It might be risky, but they'll want to know about this.

I went back in!
It took a while because I had to get some more distance between me and the escorts so I could make some noise and reload.
Lost sight of the Cassablanca I had my eye on, think I was wrong there anyway. Looks like that group were heading to Omaha. I ran in towards Utah beech at speed using the snorkel and the next Task Force started to come in from my starbord rear quarter. I think these ones are heading to Utah. Mainly a US group but look who I found giving fire support.

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/9678/nelly2me9.jpg
This just keeps on getting better and better.
Finally manovered into an intercept position. With the course changes this task force was making I ended up within 2500 meters of the Nelson (Way closer than I had planned). Once again I let loose with all 4 forward tubes.
http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/2919/nelly3mb6.jpg
Strange I heard 4 detonations all close together but only got 1 torpedo impact. Still ship sunk thats what counts.

Looking forward to getting a few hours free later, getting those last internal torps loaded and letting them swim. The choice of targets is phenominal. Of course there's the odd DD or 2 to evade. How on earth I'm going to reload my external torps is beyond me! I may just have to take them home.
I'll be honest I don't play DiD but so far I've been lucky not a scratch. This can't continue surely? I will be posting a severly damaged/dead screenshot soon, can't believe I've got away with this. There again the Allies are somewhat focused on another task.
Just hope I get to see some Mullberries soon that would be cool. Anybody know if they are modelled?

Well now it's gone and happened to me.
After ages reading about other players woes of saving whilst submerged and surrounded by heavy traffic its happened to me. Why won't my saves load:damn:
Think I'm going to have to go quite a way back, possibly before my stalk on the Nelson. Doh. In fairness saving whilst surfaced was'nt really an option. Bu***r!

Well found a save that works and went after the Nelson again
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/969/2n1cg5.jpg
Found him and put 4 from the front under the his keel. A risky shot with the huge swell due to the historically correct and appalling weather.
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/7298/2n2dz7.jpg
I also launched an acoustic from the stern at a Dido class Cruiser but the eel decided to lock onto a DD and chase that instead. Problem being the eel was running too deep for the DD to set it off. Must have been scary aboard that tin can!
As I sailed away silent at 20meters (as deep as possible) I saw this lonely sight. Looking almost like the conning tower of a sub poor Nelson sat on the bottom.
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/5633/2n3ad4.jpg
I think the shear volume of traffic and bad weather is what is stopping the DDs aquiring me sucessfully.
http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/2572/2n4je3.jpg
This is what it sounds like. My sonarmans ears must be sore.

Our 2 remaining internal torps.
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/2282/2n7go4.jpg
Did you see those 2 Aux cruisers in the earlier screenshot?
Well we're having one of those! Stuff the external fish! Then back to base for a well earned night on the town.
If this doesn't get us a transfer to the 11th Flotilla and one of those new wunder boots nothing will.
So long as I can reload my game again:damn: Lol

You survived....:o
Even at 63% Realism thats a huge accomplisment, Congratulations on Delaying the Invasion lol.
An attack like this would have seriously dented Allied confidence on the eve of the invasion. G:od thing it never really happened!
Congrats KaLeun,
Now reload eels from the arsenal and go right back.....:arrgh!:
You have some meore work to do!

Well tried and failed for the Aux Cruisers. 2 wasted eels, I fired from to far and those T3s just don't catch up quick enough. Did'nt even contemplate loading the externals. Still managed to sneak home despite the Allies best efforts.
Wish I had more internal torpedoes.
I threw a huge party for the crew and Bdu showered us with medals all round. More injuries were sustained on that night out than our last patrol. Those French girls are just so enthusiastic.
Still hungover the next day I had to pay a visit to Bdu. Onkel said that if it was'nt for that invasion business the Furher would want to meet me in person. Lucky escape there I think. So I asked Onkel about a transfer up to the 11th flotilla in Norway and a wunder boat. Can you believe he said no!
Remain at Lorient, back to sea same boat and patrol BF11 for 24 hours!
I'm begining to have doubts about the way this war is being conducted. If we are not careful we could lose. Apparently the Allies are gaining quite a foothold in Normandy and things are not going the Armys way.
