Can't patch SH3

So I bought this game, loaded it up and like all good captains tried to patch it,

i downloaded silent_hunter_3_dvd_1.4b_emea.exe

I get the error msg "This program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter 3 EMEA DVD v1.0 to v1.3 because of the following reason:

c:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\MissionEngine.dll: unknown version

I tried to patch to v1.1 I downloaded silent_hunter_3_dvd_1.1_emea.exe

I get error msg "This program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter III EMEA DVD v1.0 because of the following reason:

C:|Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\anim.act: unknown version.

does anyone know what the problem is and can suggest a solution ? thanks

Hi Moosejam,
There are several 1.4b patches; If you purchased the game in the US on a DVD, you need the US DVD patch, which you can download from the UBI web site, among other places.

After you get the game patched, install GWX 1.03 and SH3CMDR to get the full effect of this wonderful game.

I'm not aware of your location or what version you have purchased :nope:
IIRC there are at least 6 out there :yep:

There is the American disc and the online d/l version and likewise European versions...the patch for each can be found here:http://www.silent-hunteriii.com/uk/updates.php :up:

You need to find out which version you have first. :yep:

There are also bargain bin discs in some shops, some already incorporating the patch and others without.

LOL how stupid am I, yes it's already patched to version 1.4, I spent all day yesterday trying to patch it, downloaded so many different patches, tried running it in compatability modes, updated drivers, opened a call with UBI support which I'll go and close now, I just wanted to patch it soo bad cause I know I'm gonna love this game and wanted everything to be perfect before I set sail thanks danlisa and all you guys for the suggestions, I'll go and check out the mods now :up:

hey, I downloaded the grey wolves expansion and it says I need to have v1.4b of sh, so my version is 1.4 , the 1.4b update I downloaded seems to be a cumulative update and doesn't work because my version is 1.4 and it is expecting version 1.0 I guess, does anyone know of a patch that is just the b update if you know what I mean, or do you think it's OK to install the grey wolves on version 1.4, maybe I should just go and play the game before trying to mod it :D

Sorry for the copy & paste.:up:

1) Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2) Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3) Reinstall SH3
4) If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5) OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6) Visit the GWX homepage (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/download.html) and download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7) Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9) SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Visit the GWX homepage (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/download.html) and download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

BTW, we are using GWX now (Grey Wolves eXpansion). Grey Wolves or GW was the version before.;)

I guess you're referring with 1.4 to the number displayed in the lower right of the main menu? That means 1.4b patch is installed, atleast here it says 1.4 and I'm sure I've got 1.4b installed

Viper is right. The patch on the splash screen just says 1.4 byt it is 1.4b

FINALLY somebody mentions it.

C'mon guys, if you see noobs saying that they've just bought the game and can't patch it, then there's a 99% chance that it is ALREADY patched!!!

If Ubi weren't run by the three stooges, they would re-release the game with the patch and GWX, SH3CMDR and JSGME!
