"While it played, Carmack said, 'What we've got here is the entire world with unique textures, 20GB of textures covering this track. They can go in and look at the world and, say, change the color of the mountaintop, or carve their name into the rock. They can change as much as they want on surfaces with no impact on the game.'"
Sounds like a modder's dream.
Carmack told the audience that this new tech will be shown on the Mac, PC, PS3, and Xbox (360) at this year's E3.
I keep finding reasons to be dissapointed with the Wii.

The Wii isn't about graphics, its about function. Personaly I wouldn't buy one but its tons of fun at parties. Nintendo knew they coulnd't compete with two next gen consoles so theywent for the niche. They'll clean up in relative return based on where Sony and M$ are. The reality is that Sony is losing money on the PS3 and fast. It might be next gen but it could turn into the Delorean of Consoles... well the latest Delorean anyway. *cough* Dreamcast *cough*

They can't keep Wii's on the shelf.
PS2 is selling like hotcakes also.
You really have to be impressed with the whole XBOX Live thing. Very well though out.
I own a Wii and do enjoy it, especially for parties. But to be honest the internet on it is pointless. Flash movies always freeze due to the lack of memory the system has and the graphics are only a little better than a gamecube. Plus in Call of duty 3 the controls always lock up after a bit of playing.
All they needed to do was make it graphically powerful enough to come close to the 360. Although I guess if I want good GFX that is what my PC is for...
Still, this new engine looks very interesting and the lack of mention of the wii looks like the same old nintendo problem could come back, lack of decent games.
Still, I can't wait for ID to start bringing out some titles for this engine. When valve made the source engine it was an amazing leap in game quality. Plus this new engine might be the perfect platform for a long awaited game. Duke Nukem!!

Sony just layed off 10% of their worldwide workforce. They have a huge campus in Redwood Shores, and folks were freaking out. The lose a couple hundred bucks on every PS3 they manage to sell.

Dream on. I have an old PC Gamer from like 03 or something with Duke Nukem on the cover. Guess what! It was cancelled. Hell. Prey is out. Duke is permanently cursed it seems.

I don't know, it's such a name that even if it is the most craptastic game around it will sell enough to make plenty of cash for ID. I'm assuming that they wanted to spend more time doing Doom 3 and Quake. Hopefully Duke will be along soon enough.
What I want to know is will ID make a new Shadow Warrior?!
Heheh Sticky bomb likey you
