This is one of the most interesting articles I have read on the subject. Bascically, the US has done both good and bad jobs over the years in these types of operations, but in Iraq they forgot the mistakes of the past and ended up repeating them.

Iraq reminds me somewhat of the late stages of the British occupation of India, only Iraq has been far faster.
