View Full Version : Stern shot off track in TDC?

Looking at the F6 TDC map screen, there's something strange imo.
If you use the following settings for forward launch, the indicated torpedo track on the map (bearing overlay) is straight 0:
Bearing 0
Speed 0
AOB 0
But if you use the following settings for stern launch, the torpedo track is NOT 180 but about 5 degrees off:
Bearing 180
Speed 0
AOB 0
(Problem appears in GWX, don't know about stock)
Sry for the question, but you set the TDC to use the aft tube, right ?

Yes, and the track line doesn't go through the 180 on the bearing overlay, but it's 5 degrees off.

I just tried this with (GWX 1.03)
Bearing 180
Speed 0
AOB 0 and 180
the line goes perfectly through 180° for me. Is it only the green line on the map that is off or does the gyro angle idicator actually show 5°?

Sorry for not being clear ;)
When I change the bearing gauge so that the line on the overlay map goes through 180, the bearing gauge itself is at 175.

Okay, after several tests tonight, I was unable to replicate this problem more than once... and even then it was less than one degree offset to starboard. (0.66 degrees) I am unable to determine whether the problem is related to stock SH3 or to the bearing overlay itself. The problem is not unique to GWX.
I have seen occasional references to this issue over the last couple of years, and the first references to this issue ocurred prior to the implementation of Pato's bearing overlay by GWX.
Considering that it appears to be an intermittant problem... I don't know what we can do to fix it.:shifty: It is not certain to me that replacing, re-working, or removing the bearing overlay will solve the problem.

Okay thanks for sharing.
The big question is: is the overlay wrong or is the bearing indicator wrong?
If the bearing indicator is wrong, then the stern solution will be wrong, resulting in a miss very often!, depending on range.

I think I remember this problem coming up in the stock game. I haven't seen it in GWX.
In your first picture above, I think it really is off. The gyro angle is reading -2.6 degrees. Its close but not dead on to the 3 degrees indicated on the map area.

Thanks. That is exactly the point I was trying to make earlier. I don't think it is the bearing overlay... and this problem has indeed existed since stock SH3.
The worst thing about it IMHO, is that it appears to be an intermittant problem. Attempts at correcting it may make it worse.... and for the moment the means to correct it are not present. (at least as far as I can tell)
Really though if it is intermittant then it isn't much of an issue right? I mean this isn't NASA here, its the Kriegsmarine. TDCs are physical caluclators so you could just say that it glitched or something. Put it in the same category as dud torpedoes or early detonations. Its all in the role play right?

Server seems to be down, probably another power outage in my block.
Will correct this tonight when I get home.

It is a constant feature of my game with GWX. When carrying out the fast 90 attacks the 180 bearing never aligns between the scope bearing and the bearing in the TDC. I just realign the TDC dial.
Never really thought about it that much, the 0 bearing is always ok.
Besides I feel dirty when I fire at less than 600m so a few degrees wont make much difference either way :arrgh!:
