Hi,
is there something like a feature that your sub can be damaged without reporting it to you ?

During my last patrol (Oct '40), I interecepted a convoy and everything was normal, to get there right in time, I drove at Full ahead ~17kn. After my attack I got DC'ed by 3 destroyers, went down to 155m and after a few hours the DD's got back to their convoy. Because of the early year they couldn't really hurt us, just a very few times the boat was shaken by depth charges.
After surfacing I wanted to get around the convoy at high speed to do another attack the same night. Then I recognized that I couldn't get any faster than 15kn at flank speed. Both diesels giving everything they could, never got any damage report during the hunt by the DD's.
The crew/damage screen said the diesels where fully functional. So I checked the RPM count and got the following:
1/3: slightly under 300 RPM (so normal, speed also normal at ~10kn)
half: 350 RPM
full: ~380 RPM
flank: ~400 RPM
So what could have prevented my diesels from producing a higher RPM count on the screws ? Is it a feature of GWX (which I never read of) or may it be a result of this setting in SH3 Commander (2.7) which produces damages at your boat without being attacked ? I enabled it, but I didn't really stress the boat before, so this reduced maximum speed came really a little out of nothing :hmm:

Has this happened to anyone else yet ?

did you tell the chief engineer to stop recharging the batteries? because recharging will knock a few knots off your top speed, even at flnk until the batteries are fully recharged, if some of your batteries got damaged or destroyed you may be permanently stuck in recharge mode unless you specifically tell the engineer to stop recharging.

Yep, forgot to write that, sry
I told him to use both engines to move the boat.

But one thing I did not check yet is whether a recharging engine would produce the full RPM count, because when recharging, a diesel does always run at maximum.

If you have sabotage and malfunctions enabled in SH3commander they can strike at anytime

Coward crew I have no time for them.

what about the weather? waves can slow you down

Right, in this case it's 4km/h wind speed from 000°, I am heading west, so this should not be the reason. Especially because the RPM count is effected, and the speed is normal if I just go 1/3 ahead.
I thought it must be this malfunction option of SH3 Commander (sabotage option is off) or something in GWX which I didn't come across yet.

If you take a look at the engines rpm gauge at the helm station you will see the count for each engine. The recharging engine shows less rpms ;)

Really ? I'm pretty sure, that a diesel recharging the batteries runs with the same amount of RPMs as when running at flank speed. Cannot check that for my special case with the damaged(?) enginges right now.

Don't know if it's stock vanilla or GWX, but I think accumilated damage (not necessarily hull integrity) can slow you ship as when it gets dented, bits blown off, decking wrecked the hydrodynamics go to pot. I have seen my boats speed go down, esp. underwater, as it accumilates damage.

I did a check while recharging. Only one prop is making turns while in recharging mode.

That's a good point, could be the same thing that happened to me, thanks ;)

Bdu has hired an outside consulting group to help streamline the U-boat division. Some of there initial findings are that German engineered diesels are too expensive. So we have been replacing them with less powerfully ones manufactured in India. Next time you’re back in port, please come see them. They want to know how much time you’re spending on TPS Reports.

Keep it real,

Bdu

Very strange. I just loaded the savegame where I am still on the same patrol and now the engines seem to work fine again. I changed nothing which I would know of.
