Got the game a few weeks ago. I managed to bimble my way through using the useless manual. Then found this site (I dont have internet access, I have to use friends or internet cafe).
Didnt realise there was a patch for it, so I download the latest patch 1.2, the game was still pretty bad, so I uninstall and re-installed the game and then the patched before playing for the first time. Still the game is pretty bad.
Big thumbs up to legion for his video tutorial on how to attack using your sub, it was really helpful, but still cant rescue a badly programed game.
My first mission. (career mode)
Photo recon - Yokohama.
I did this no problem, I left the bay surfaced reported in, got no new mission so headed home killing things as I went. At PH I could end patrol so I did, got medals and promotions.
Mission 2
Photo recon - Yokohama
Photo no problem, left bay, surfaced, given mission to patrol east china sea, no problem, then destory merchants, no problem, surfaced reported in, no new mission so headed back to PH and ended patrol. More medals and promotions.
Mission 3
Photo recon - Yokohama
As before no problems, after killing merchants re-fitted at Java went back to try killing some more things, got a new mission to patrol east china sea, but in a new area, then destroy merchants. I found merchants, surfaced, reported convoy, told to destroy convoy, so I did, reported in, no new mission, reffited at java, patrolled east china sea again now new missions, so destroyed whatever i could with torpedos and guns, returned to PH. more medals etc.
Mission 4
Identical to mission 3
Mission 5
Identical to mission 1
Mission 6
Identical to mission 3
Trying my best not to swear now as I dont want to be banned or edited.
Now maybe this is taking the realism toooo far. Sub comanders might well have done this but I want to play a game, remove this rubbish idea of realism. I want to make progress in a game. This is either a major bug (judging from the amount of others with similar problem) or a very very cheap way to make the game look bigger than it is.
The game suffers from crashes on a regular basis, often when I'm tracking torpedoes in free view to watch them impact, its the most exciting thing to do in such a dull game, but i've had to give this up to limit the game crashing.
All my new found knowledge on how to play the game has been found at this site, big thumbs up again to the site. But why oh why do i have to go to a third party to get decent instructions on how to play the game. To say the manual is poor is the nicest thing i can come up with.
How can Ubi get away woth publishing such #### # #### #####, I will try and take the game back to the shop and get a full refund under my consumer rights. It doesnt say what it does on the tin, there is no mention about having to download patches to make the game slightly playable.
Overall I am very disappointed with what has the potential to be a great game but let down by extremly poor and probably rushed software.
If this is the way Ubi produces things I am not going to purchase any more software from them.
Hmmm, I feel much better now having bitched and moaned about it. Will give it a couple of more tries, but I am fast becoming bored with doing the same mission over and over and over and .........
Hiss, boo, Ubi sucks.
