View Full Version : Bearing indicator mod for GWX?

Greetings everyone. It struck me the other day that the screenshots on Wazoo's excellent manual targeting tutorial feature bearing indicators that are different from those i have.

When looking through the periscopes or UZO on my boat the indicator has ticks marking every 5 degrees or so (i think, i'm not ingame at the moment). However, on those screenshots i see an indicator with ticks for every single degree (smaller ticks for single degree marks, larger for every 5th degree and even larger with a number for every 10th one).

It looks something like this (ignore the white horizontal lines, i just add them because the post screws up the formatting otherwise):
--------350
----|----|
||||||||||||||

I am using GWX 1.03 with SH3commander 2.7 and some optional mods included/suggested in the GWX installation (16km atmosphere, no medals at sea, ship skin pack and aircraft markings, all described in the GWX manual). I also have JSGME since it's included with GWX. So, does anyone know if and where i can find such a mod for scopes and UZO that's compatible with my install, plus the correct folder structure to have it easily enabled via JSGME? Also, will i be able to mod this while at sea or should i only mod while in port?

Thanks in advance :up:

Ok, i did some more research when i got home. Apparently there used to be a certain Precision periscope mod made by Devnull.

I checked out UBRS and found a newer version, but it changes some extra things (pre-GWX magnification of 10x that i already have in GWX, vernier marks below the bearing marks etc) and i'm a bit reluctant to apply it over a heavily modded install like GWX is.
Plus i already like GWX as it is, i just want to have single-degree marks on scopes, UZO and binoculars.

If anyone knows more, be my guest. It's not overly important to drive me nuts, but sometimes that exra degree of accuracy would make quite a difference, especially when using the fast 90 methods of targeting where you need to point the scope to a certain bearing to calibrate the TDC, or use the scope to mark a new course with the = key.

You need to locate the "bearing.tga" file in Ducimus' dowload which you'll find on the mod forum.

I did a post about 1 to 1-1/2 weeks ago with exact directions how to install this one file as a mini-mod when I installed it to my own game. See if you can locate my previous explanation. My response was posted to a question similar to yours.

Let me know if you need further help; at work now, I could be more specific when I'm at home.
