Hey big boy, want to sleep overnight on a WWII sub?

Check this out !:

http://www.wisconsinmaritime.org/overnight.htm

I live about 30 miles due west of Chicago. It's a 5 hour drive north where I live. Maybe some of us can pick a date and have a blast of fun doing this. Like to to it AFTER Labor Day to make sure all the little brats are back in school not ruining our weekend. It's available year round also!

I have toured this sub in 1980 and then again in 1983. The Muesem accross the street is three stories. First two floors our on all the subs made there. Third floor is devoted to the sinking of the Edmunds Fitzgerald. Interested?

The USS Torsk has the same deal. The Boy Scouts sleep overnight. They come up on deck at 0600 so we can continue restoring at 0700. They sleep in the berths and learn navigation. They really enjoy it.

I'll bring the cigars.

Serious though, I wish they had something like this in Australia. Might just have to join the navy instead.

Same in SF. You can sleep on the Pampanito or the Liberty Ship O'Brien.

I am trying to get a few folks of doing this in the Midwest - Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiania, Michigan. Anyone interested? 3-4 of us to try this someday in 2007 ?

The smarter ones of us slept on the Buckley class DE next to the sub.
We knew that sometime in the middle of the night, Drebbel and the
Dutch gang would set off the klaxton diving alarm. We heard the news and
saw the pics the next morning....

They do have sleep overs on HMAS Vampire (destroyer) at the Australian Marintime muesum now and again. I don't think they do it on HMAS Onslow (Submarine)
