View Full Version : GWX - DC announcement?

I have heard GWX toned down blast radius and pinpoint drops. So, did the DC announcement really mean that you were at great risk in stock SH3, but due to GWX changes it isn't something that spells imminent doom?
At the moment, it seems the only way to really know how much a threat the DCs are is to be personally following the escort with the hydrophone.
Of course, the other thing seems to be the event window. Like the torpedoes, there seems to be some type of proximity setting which triggers the windows to pop-up when DCs will be near your boat. That's the true warning that you need to do something fast. Is there a mod for the event camera that you can keep it for torpedo attacks, but disable it for DC attacks?
Thanks.

I gotta agree with this, Ive seen DCs in GWX 1.03 be right next to my Boat and explode but cause no damage.

DC announcement ?
If you mean "depth charges in the water " then you will get those even if the DD is dropping them a few hundred yards away
Play with the event camera off
More immersive
Sure when you are first learning it helps to see what your torps are doing but after that tis a PITA
Every ships sinking\aircraft attacking and DC falling close it appears
Esp bad when you are using snorkel and the window pops up to show an aircraft in attack run :nope:

The potential damage output by DC's is random. Sometimes you will get lucky.;)
Sometimes, they will scrambles your eggs.
@Markshot, sorry i can't help you with the event cam triggers... never modded them. My personal style is just to run with the event cam turned off. As BBW states... it is often a PITA.

This has been my dilemma since first loading the game. On one hand, I wanted to play this "real" like one does a flight sim by staying in the cockpit. On the other hand, this is not a flight sim. So, staying in the cockpit basically turns this game into a Sub Command analog where effectively you are playing at various station displays. Now, in any other subsim, I was just fine with that, but this game is so incredibly beautiful graphically, I feel cheated only looking at stations and peeping through the scope!
What to do!? That's why I was hoping to simply be able to watch torpedo hits, since I am generally on the way down after firing, but disable the other features of the event window.
On another note, of course, it is safest to dive as soon as feasible. However, in real life what was most common? I get the impression that subs confirmed their hits from PD before diving (and sometimes sinkings) unless they were forced under first.
Thanks.

You can always use next unit view , and . on the keyboard to see your victim if you want
Move the cam around the ship and even under to see the torps hit
Early war I imagine they would witness sinkings but as it progressed the wise ones wouldnt bother
You only made the mistake of getting caught watching once in RL if you were unlucky

I keep the event cam off, but do a lot of F12 to get a look around. Very often follow the torp to target, and when I'm bored of my effeminate XO while submerged, take a look around to admire the escorts.
