I like Tambor and Gato. Don't know why, I really can't tell the difference between the classes other than the amount of torpedoes in the fore tubes.

The Porpoise. Its fast enough, dives deep enough and has a smaller profile than the similar but larger Gato and Tambor for smaller returns of active sonar to the enemy DDs. It makes finding you a tad bit harder...plus the Porpoise still dives relativly fast so you have a chance of escaping from air strikes.

The Gato and Tambor take forever to dive, too much of a liabilty, radar is nice, but radar was finiky at the time and failed frequently on its own or do to combat actions(nearby DCs would jar them badly).

Not to mention the forced 8000m max visibilty makes it very possible you may be seen during the day when intercepting a target. By the time you see it, dive and actually get submerged you may get spotted.

The Porpoise is the perfect balance of lethality and stealth. Its fast, carries a good amount of ordnance, plus it can get below the waves, get deep and avoid detection very well.

Mine is the Gato Class because it was the workhorse of the War. It also gives me a goal to work for.

 Seems to be mine also. Without all the electronic goodies it makes hunting a bit for challenging.

The Balao class, for the nice hull it got that allows me to go real deep. Almost like the type VII uboats, but with radar :)

Having lived aboard the USS Segundo (SS398) for 2 years as a torpedoman, it's gotta be a Balao Class Boat................"DBF"

Right now I'm for the high tech Balao.

But. knowing me I'll eventually end to love those smaller, cuter ones... Will be trying them in 2-3 careers.

Balao class FTW!! Ultra deep diving and high tech radar and electronics makes hunting and sinking Jap destroyers with one torpedo easier and safer.:arrgh!:

Lets see if those depth charges can get me at 850 FT!!!!!1!!

Plus I've heard that these sweet subs got ice cream makers.

Narwhal....

I'd say Balao but the S-boats have a certain attraction to them.

The Gato and Tambor take forever to dive

My Tambor always dives within 45 seconds ... I don't know what everyone's talking about.

Exactly, I can hit 'c', have sex and a smoke before returning and just hitting crashdepth :arrgh!:
