I finished the first mission in the USS Triton (deploy to Honoshu and attack shipping) and returned to Pearl harbor and ended my patrol. I upgraded some crew and weapons, then clicked the giant map. the same objective was given to me, "deploy to Honoshu." Is this normal? should I do this again? it took forever to sail across the pacific even at 2500 time speed-up!

Its a known 'glitch' they are alledgedly going to fix it with the next patch.
That being said... why would it be unusual to be assigned the same patrol ?

Did you complete your patrol objective? You needed to patrol for 48 hours and sink at least 10,000 tons of the type of shipping specified in your objectives. Then you should have radioed in a patrol report to see if ComSubPac had any other objectives for you. Then, and only then, do you rtb.

Thanks Channing. I didn't realize I had to Radio in things. How do I radio in my completed patrol?

What if you run out fo torpedos on the way there engaging massive convoys?
I've always wondered that.

Halfway through a career, and EVERY mission has been "deploy to Honshu..." Thought about buying a condo there, to save on travelling times.
Mine is the East China Sea mission. I got that one down to a science. I think if you run out of torpedos before completing your objective, you return to Midway to reload then head west again. As long as you don't return to Pearl and "End Patrol" you can do that as often as you like. I would think that the longer you are out though your crew morale would eventually drop.

Always attempt to complete the mission. Radio in. If you spot a convoy radio this in. It triggers a response for your next move. As far as deploying to Honshu over and over, well, is this not were the war is? I did a Honshu. Once there, told to engage shipping. Sunk 10000 tons. Told to go to another area. Told to engage shipping once more. Sunk 10000 tons. I was told to go back to Honshu. Engaged shipping again. Ran out of torps and headed home without completing the last mission. I ended patrol. Started again and got a drop commandos. Calling convoys and sinking 10000+ tons or staying for 48 hours completes your missions. I was very surprised I did not get the Honshu again as I did not compete the last Honshu mission. The game is very strange sometimes. :yep:

Hit "M" and at the bottom of the notepad that pops up are two icons. One is to report contacts, and the other is a Patrol Status report. Click on that and you should get a reply in a few hours (game time).

This is a nice feature in the game ( even if a little buggy still ), getting new objectives during the same patrol :yep:

Yup... reminds me of one of the early modifications to Falcon 4.0 where you would be on the way to your mission and get diverted to another.
Really helped with the "being there" thing.

While there are some bugs associated to the objectives engine, I think there's nothing really strange about it. Its a war out there, and perhaps Honshu needs "patrolling" a lot. Or perhaps there's a new mission that needs accomplishing.
This is war, not a game :D You don't have to complete level 1 just to pass to level 2 ;)

I see no bugs, the missions are fine in my book. Like I stated, you go to Honshu a few times because that is where the war is. It is not a Celebrity Cruise of the islands!!! Anyway, complete your missions and you get to move on. I'm good with how the missions are assigned. Call in convoys, sink ships get new missions! Simple:D If I do not complete the mission, expect to be sent back. Go get'em!
Sometimes this game plays just like the book "Unrestricted Warfare". Read it and you will see what I mean.

Being assigned 6 (SIX) consecutive South China Sea patrols is just plain silly. It all started after the first departure from Java and continued into my 3rd Gato patrol in late 42. I would always be out of torpedoes by the time my patrol was ending, but I completed the objective every time.

Switch,
Do you play with no map contacts? I do not play with contact on map on. Just to many red convoys to attack. Furthermore, my mission is to go to point X. If I get a close contact I will sink it. I do not go way off the beaten track for ships that you really probably would have not seen anyway without the map contact update. My main goal is the mission. This is what I do. With no map contact set to on, I can go for day without seeing a merchant. Mean while I'm getting on station with a full load of torps to complete the mission.

I got the mission to drop commandos off 6 times in a row as my first mission for 6 separate patrols... It is definately a pretty serious bug.. Same guy too... Jesse Brockman, damn good commando, lol
I had the honshu mission when I had a campaign out of PH and roleplayed it the best I could but the commando mission was a game killer.

As SW said, Dan is already looking into the campaign repeats. I can honestly say I never had up to 6 of the same. That is a bit much. Max I have had was 3 of the same. Fear not, Dan is on the case:up:

It's easy to guesstimate convoy routes around Jawa sea y'know. The reason I sun out of torps and ammo is because taking on a covoy in shallow waters requires sending the DDs to the bottom first. That's on average 1.5-2 torps per DD. Convoy routes seem to change little or not at all during '42. Gets boring to play in shallow waters after a while.

I don't mind haveing the same patrol 2 or 3 times, yes its boring, but once being transferred to Brisbane, I have the Marshal Is. 4 or 5 times, boring but mostly I have NO AMMO can not dock anywhere, Refit only gives torpedoes, NEVER AMMO. and no ships in the area... I have to leave the area to find SHIPS..
Sorry but the cost of SH4 ($50.00) is not worth the problems and errors created, I have never had this many problems with the previous SH series...
Please - Stop acting like Microsoft and shipping, mostly broken stuff.
patch v1.2 totally messes up the graphics. the map is brown and blue lines, YUK, trying to submerge is almost impossible, I have to FIRE 2 or 3 time to get a tropedo to fire, sitting in Port - Brisbane. I receive more damage then I ever had on a patrol, then I have to reset the speed control after P for periscope depth it goes to 0. and A crashes every time... Well the first question is , do you have the dvd in the drive . I am not trying to be funny , just trying to help .
I bought a condo in the Palau Islands. Completed three patrols there and headed back tonight. It is not like I sink the same ships, there is something different each time. Like the man said that is where the war is. This time I got a large convoy on the radar screen. I got ready to attack. There was a carrier in my scope. I checked the book, it was a fleet carrier USN. I was just a few minutes from being in deep Sh-- ah DO, DO. DDs were closing fast. LIONS AND TIGERS AND BEARS - OH MY! what do I do? I saved the game and surfaced. I did not get killed but I had DDs all around me. I think if I had stayed down and had been found, I think they would have attacked. That has never happened on my trip to the Palau Islands before. I think I will get a native wife, so I can tell my grandchildren how I almost sunk the American fleet. :rotfl:
I also have a patrol mod installed that the read me said I don't have to do the same missions. I must have missed something. Anyway, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.

I smile with glee everytime Im assigned the Marshells.
Talk about target rich ... phew !
Oh speaking of Palu.
I was given the photo recon there again. Except this time I had a full load of munitions. In a Balo no less.
Long story short. Scratch two flat tops.
The pickets complained loudly but we were able to avoid them and escape without a scratch.
Crew was nearly orgasimic.
SW were those flattops - Ours or Theirs? :rotfl:
Take a picture of my house the next time you're down that way. It is right on the beach, you can't miss it.
Just out of confusion. Does anyone know if there was really an American Convoy with four flattops, two heavy crusiers and more support staff than I can count on my fingers & toes, steaming SSW past Guam in early to middle February 43?
When the bugs get fixed, what will we gripe about then?

Well Palu was still in the IJN's hand at this point, and they had rising sun flags so I assum they were IJN ships.
I havent seen the large allied convoy you speak of but its a big ocean.
Nice going - You know I was just kidding about the "ours or theirs" thing. No offense meant.
I kind of wish I had stayed down, just to see if I would have been attacked by our ships. They were pinging.
