Ahoy Kaleuns,

I'm a GWX newbie, am on my first career patrol in GWX.

Two things are quite annoying to me:

1) I'm in early 1939, and every 2 minutes a new radio message is coming in describing the German successes in the army assault on Poland. It's nice that my crew members know what's going on, but when I'm sailing the sees it's annoying that traveling at 512x speed is permanently interrupted by 'income message' alerts. :-?

Okay, I can take the radio man off work to prevent these alerts, but then I can't receive important BdU messages.

My question is: Is the number of radio messages a day constantly staying the same throughout the year, or is this just in the first few days / month that high? Is there a way to take the alerts off even when the radio man is at work?

2) GWX introduces a new navigation tool on the navigation map when you're zooming in high (sorry, don't know the English name for that), that circular thing showing distances and bearings. It might be useful for plotting torpedo courses, but personally, I dislike it because you can't really make out ships etc. when they are underneath that tool. Especially harbor raids are difficult.

Is there a way to turn this tool off? I found no hints in the GWX manual to that... :hmm:

Otherwise the GWX is really nice, though things are really really difficult now, especially harbour raids on silent running, because your boat tends to drop out of the sea so that enemies can see you... and also, it slows my machine really down, external views are only possible at max 4x speed, I should consider another gig of ram or a better graphics card...

1. Yes, the number of radio messages decreases in time. I am mid-1941 in a GWX 1.03 career and I hardly get 1 or 2 radio messages a day. You can see for yourself by opening the radio messages file in the campaigns folder of your game, scroll down towards the end of the campaign and see when they are due to come - SPOILER WARNING.
2. That's called a bearing overlay tool and you should find the appropriate file somewhere in the layout folder IIRC - not sure about its location, I am at work now. Or search the forum for it.

Thanks dcb,

I hope I can find the file. Can I simply delete/rename it to deactive the bearing overlay tool? Or do I have to the replace it with a transparent file of the same size?

I searched the forum but didn't find anything about it...

My guess is you'll have to replace it, else if the game doesn't find it, it will CTD. Maybe you should replace it with the original file of the game, which I remember had no bearing overlay in it. Just a guess, though.

That's correct, stock SH III doesn't have it....

If I can find it at home, I'll upload later....am at work now...

Can't find the file with the bearing overlay tool nor can I find the layout folder IIRC, anyone knows the file name/folder location?

You can find them here:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Submarine\NSS_U boat**\NSS_Uboat**_shp.tga

If you PM me, I'll send you the SHIII original files.....

I've installed the original tga files, now the tool has disappeared and I'm fine! :D

Thanks!

Why don't you just use SH3 Commander to set the time compression for the event of getting a radio message ? Set the max TC there to 512x and while travelling at 512x you will not get interupted, right ? Did not try that for me yet though.
