This may, or may not, have been presented. Has anyone noticed that with imperial units chosen as desired units of measurement that both metric and imperial units seem to be used by the game?
Example, I encountered a convoy with several Fubuki DD's and 3 Mogami cruisers as escorts. The merchants consisted of small passenger carriers. When I fired at the Mogami's I set the torps to the magnetic detonators. I had chosen Imperial units in setting up the game, so I set the torpedos to run just under 14.1 (?) feet. I fired two torpedos at each ship and had consistent detonations with all but one torpedo.
Inbetween the Mogami's I randomly fired at the small passenger carriers and DD's. I watch from external view as they ran true at ships doing all of 1 knot. All missed. I followed one torpedo and watched as it seemed to dive under one ship just as it came within it's area of magnetic influence.
OK, so this is what really happened in the war, the torpedos ran too deep much of the time in the beginning. But, why then, were each of the Mogami's a score when I fired at them? Well, I figured that perhaps their bulk was causing detonation no matter how deep the torps ran. A bigger magnetic field assigned to them if you will.
So I set up a series of shots in one attack in which the targets chosen (4 merchants) would each receive a torpedo with the depths running from 10 - 13 feet. (The draft is 17.1 feet for SPC's). Nothing.
Then I used the Metric system, 5.2 & 3.2 meters on the depth setting of the torpedo as opposed to 17.1 & 10.5 ft. respectively for the passenger carriers and DD's. I used these settings for three consecutive shots. In all three I scored hits.
Is it me, or are the lighter ships maintaining a metric draft while the bigger ships (or the Mogami's at least) are being changed to Imperial drafts when the Imperial system of measurement is selected?
