View Full Version : Ummm... Divers, standby to exit sub?

With orders to infiltrate Manilla harbour and photograph a carrier group I decided to slink up the west side of the harbour. Proved to be the wrong choice as I embedded myself into a subnet.

Divers equip with bolt cutters and cut us out of here.

Oh by the way, please be careful of that GIANT FREAKING MINE right next to the hull!

Basically, I'm stuck here. Can't surface, can't move forward or back. Any major attempt to do so just shakes the sub to pieces. I play DiD so should we abandon ship and surrender or does anyone know a way to get out of a mess like this?

Thanks,

M

lol, quite a tight spot you got yourself into there! Have you tried blowing balast? Or do you take a lot of damage when you try to move?

If I give the order to surface it doesn't go anywhere and starts taking more and more damage.:dead:

lol, yes as the coning tower has forced its way through you'd think that would do nicely. Unfortunately it results in the screeching roar of steel on steel and further damage.

I'd say it's a bit of a bug, seeing as how you passed halfway through. You're at periscope depth, right?

That looks like a horrendous clipping issue there, one of those you can never get out of mainly because you're not supposed to be in that position anyway.

That is a tight spot :hmm:

All I could think of is go to battle stations! put every available man on repair! and go for it!

Ahead flank!
Blow ballast!
Work the rudder back and forth!
Take the damage and hope you can break free and repair it :nope:
Let us know how it turns out.
Good Luck...

Yeah, I've tried everything now. The sub doesn't go anywhere and eventually it will destroy itself if I continue to try to move it.

Definitely a clipping problem. When I try to move the sub moves rapidly backwards and forwards and when viewed from the surface the entire length of the subnet is white and flashes.

maybe its time to load an earlier save... unfortunate but might have to happen :-?

Might want to drop the devs a bug report ;)

Yep, added it to the bug thread.

ouch - subnet AND mine? Haven't run into either, and I'm on my second career now...

I was screwing around one time during my carrer, trying to take artistic screenshots, such as the sub passing underneath a sinking destroyer and such. At one time I paused the game to catch a screenie of the DD just above my sub... to my surprise I was only a few meters from a mine :o It didn't blow up -- but I did as the DD was a bit faster to deploy DCs than I was to deploy my aft tubes.

That sub net screws me over every time I go into Manila harbor. My temporary workaround until I can fully plot its position is to just wait until nightfall, surface, and go right over it.

I seem to get photo recon missions with Manila as the objective all the time...the game must love me.

As this was a bug I reloaded a preivous saved game and tried again. If you go to the west side of the harbour (stick as close to the coast as you can) and then loop around to the target from the north you can avoid the nets and mines in Manilla. You may have to set your depth to a bit shallower than periscope depth to avoid running aground though.:arrgh!: I did it at 48ft.
