ppl plz help. i got the SH4, obviously. read all this about false data on ships. became increasingly frustrated and agitated. then i found the "true ship dimentions" mod. downloaded it. (btw, what's the deal w/ 1.0 and 1.2b of those mods? should only 1.2b be installed?) does installing it really help matters or will i be able to play just as well w/o it? i installed 1.2b and all im getting is a lot of blue ocean in my hits. i couldnt hit anything if u payed me!:damn:  i mean what is up? :hmm: again, should ONLY 1.2b be installed?

also - aspect ratio = length / mast height, right? and as i understand it BEAM is the width of the ship, right? then why am i getting bogus numbers sometimes using the lengths / mast heights ratio:shifty: ? even the TDC show a hit in front or back of the ship!:o god i suk:nope:
help?

You'll be able to play without it, cos you cannot hit anything, so it doesen't matter if the mast heights are more precise or not. Why you don't hit anything, has nothing to do with the mod, there's something else that is messing up things.

If you'd been bothered to read the first couple sentences about the mod in the original 1st page of the topic, you'd propably noticed that you don't need earlier versions. 1.0 is the headline that couldn't be changed to 1.2b.

What comes to aspect ratio, I don't have a glue, it's totally useless feature in my boat.

wait wait wait, Krupp! so as i understand it 1.2b is standalone? no need for 1.0 right?
about aspect ratio - how do u calculate AoB? using map plotting?

The Ship dimension fix makes the dimensions the game takes into account correct in regard to what is displayed in the screen. If you don't hit anything that is normal, nobody can start and be already an ace, just calm down and keep practicing:yep: . If you are shooting at short ranges, the most likely cause of failiure is the miscalculation of enemy speed, not of AOB.

Yes, AR is length/heigth, forget about beam. What are those bougs numbers? Can you put an example?

Yes, 1.2b is the one you need if you decide to use this mod. Version 1.0 was ment for the earlier version of sh4. 1.2b is ment to use with patch 1.2.

What comes to the AoB (and speed), I use eyeball Mk 1 for quick solutions, and normally I plot the target course on map during approach phase and use "submarine Attack Course Finder" and the flip side slide ruler for the speed calculations. Generally the results (hits) are quite accurate where ment to be (if the target keeps its course and speed).

Just be patient and practise, even do some paperwork to go through the spotting, approach to the attack phase and what are the things you need to do, so eventually, you don't have to hit pause button at all, from the start to firing torpedoes.

firstly, im not very experienced when it comes to MANUALLY targeting ships. so i have to pause. it all happens sooooo fast for me. it'll come w/experience i suppose.
secondly, i finally figured out why my torps weren't hitting anything. i used the spread angle to the WRONG side! left instead of right. i corrected and hit the snot out of that Mogami!
but a training scenario under controlled situations where no one's shooting @ u, is another story from a japanese battleship convoy. i managed only one measely aircraft carrier sunk before they all went every which direction they wanted. just like random specs of dust. how does one deal w/that?:ping: i mean u score ur first (usually silent) kill and then after that they all take evasive action! vzzzzt. it will be impossible to catch any of them, even the battleship coz it can slow down and turn too. :o u'll just use up all ur torps!:nope:
help? thnx!

well, what did you expect them to do? sit there as ducks?
You canīt hunt them all, you have to go for the biggest prize. For an enemy convoy, it would be either a carrier or a battleship. If you have plenty of time ahead and you are at a very good firing position, you might try to take 2 ships at the same time (you have to calculate the setting for 2 targets). Its not excesively difficult, as they are heading the same bearing and speed. If the targets are a little distant, shoot the nearest one with slow torps, and the second with fast ones. This way you will have some extra time to properly calculate the solution for the second target, and HOPEFULLY they should hit both targets at the same time.

Yes, its DIFFICULT, but not impossible.
