When close to the coast or traveling in a channel/river. Well, in the first two campaign missions (patrols) i've made i found out that i only have fuel to complete the mission IF i go tru the channel near the starting spot. That can take hours real time! This is jus sailing! Another question, how do i resupply my boat? Please say the exact procedure. I've tried allied random cost cities with no success (enter docks, Esc Exit patrol, right?)

Get yourself SH3 Cmdr

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=101815

That gives you the possibility to change compression time limitations. You can also give yourself a mission target PQ which fits better with your base/fuel....

For the refueling, i think it only works in blue harbours (I use GWX supermod, don't know if that changes something).

Have Fun!

To refuel, you have to dock at the port or supply ship. When you restart your mission, you will be resupplied with stores, fuel, torpedos, etc. You will also be repaired to 100%. When you start, you will be assigned to a "null" grid. There are some programs that will allow you to assign a grid to your boat.

Go to "My Documents" and locate the "SH3" folder. Open it and click on data, then cfg, then main.cfg file (The path is My Documents/SH3/data/cfg/main.cfg file)

In the second section of the main.cfg file you will see [Time Compression]. Change "LandProximity=4" to "LandProximity=128" and save this file; you'll no longer have a problem in the Kiel Canal.

I've also changed AirEnemyDetect to = 0 so that the game will pause when there aircraft spotted. Also, I reduced EnemyDetect to = 1, however this is a little agrevating when in harbor traffic but I like the time compression to go to 1 when an enemy is spotted.

Hope this is helpful.

It was helpful. Thank you!
Thank you both!

I would recommend (but there's a taste for everybody):

[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=256
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=1
AirEnemyDetected=1
SoundEffects=2
CharacterAnim=4
EnemyDetected=1
RadioReport=2048
Particles=8
PrayState=64
HunterState=64
3DRender=32
Maximum=2048

Remember, at 64x or higher, the crew do not get more tired.

quickie about refuelling..

1) How do i find these 'milk cows' you all speak of? :huh:

2) If i dock in a port to refuel/resupply before i complete my mission(24 hour patrol of grid) and the grid turns to null, does this mean my mission will result as incomplete?

cheers :arrgh!:

1. Look at your map or press the F1 key for info.

2. Yes your mission is scrub and you can do what the heck you like go any where and have fun.

SH3 is all you need for your time compression issues. ;) :yep:

3. while im at it, if i am under attack on the surface and i report contact on my messages screen, is backup supposed to come help out if i am off northern france? ive tried reporting contacts but ive never seen any help

No, the mission will not be a failure and you won't loose renown your already earned, but you might not earn more renown...
About your second question... I am not sure, but if you stay there long enough, help will eventually arrive. Notice that it takes quite some time before a fighter gets there. ;)

What does it say exactly why it can't open the file ?

It says "You need to click open with button" When i click it it says windows cant open because it needs to know what program was used to create it. Under that it says "what do you want to do?" 1. find program on internet or 2. select the program from a list. Does that make any sense.

To open the file, use the option to 'Select the program from a list...' then select Notepad from the list.

However, if you are using GWX and you are trying to manually plot the canal, why? GWX has an auto plot option. Before even moving from your starting position, goto the Nav Officers orders and choose 'Plot Search Pattern' there will be an option for Kiel Outbound or Inbound. This will automatically plot the waypoints through the canal in the most optimal way. This will allow you to TC through the canal @ 128 (64 in places).:up:

Hm, this shouldn't the case here as WinXP (at least) recognizes files ending with .cfg as simple textfiles by default and therefore opens them with notepad by default.
Or am I wrong there ? Don't use Windows that much :>

alright thank. That worked but i do use auto plot but when close to land it brings it down to 2x compression.

There is a 'near land' value for the TC too. I just know it from SH3Com but it's in the config file too.

EDIT: ... and is called LandProximity :up:

Set your LandProximity value to 256 (as Canovaro said before).

You can achieve this by using SH3 Commander or editing the main.cfg file.

A minor caveat: Though it's great that we can pre-adjust the TC for proximity to land, one must take care when approaching home base. Once, with my TC at 1024X approaching Wilhelmshaven, the lag got so bad that I could not lower the TC -- the controls did not respond until I had drifted almost into the minefield! :o

From now on, I reduce TC to 256X before entering the bay, then drop to 64X. So "home base lag" is no longer a danger to my boat.

Ciao!
