Just wondering if anyone saw the superb documentary on the sinking of the Lusitania (last sunday BBC1)

I think perhaps someone should mention to the BBC that the type 7 uboat didnt exist in 1915 though!
-It looks as if they used the sets & props from the movie U571
(s33 boat for surface shots and the interiors of the type7)

Despite the wrong sub it was still worth a watch for anyone with an interest subs etc...

Yeah not many WWI U boats left and none that I'm aware of in condition to do any filming in. It's a shame they were a bit lazy but I spose their budget didn't stretch to bulding a mock up. Probably not a huge amount of detailled photos that show the inside of WWI U boats around either but they aren't exactly hidden.

I found these on a nice website with google: http://www.firstworldwar.com/photos/sea.htm

Thanks but no ncredit to me. anyone can google "World War one Uboat interior" then click on images and look for one that actually shows the interior of a WWI uboat.:)

Maybe the producers of the programme said that most of the population wouldn't notice the difference. As usual there is always a committed group of people who know more about any particualr subject than the average joe and will pick up the differences.

hey that cut-away picture is awesome, i tried something similar as a render with sh3 models, but it didnt turn out half that good.
I really ought to learn a bit more about ww1 subs, right now i know pretty much nothing on the subject.

Yeah, I saw the programme on BBC1, and I agree; I thought it was really very good indeed! Wish they'd put more stuff like that on.

Cheers,

Dan

Unfortunately I missed it and was hoping it would be repeated on 'catch up TV' on Virgin Media, but alas no.

I think its amazing when you comare how cluttered a real WWI sub was to the cut-away drawing. No pipes wheels or levers in the control room to speak of, loads of room for everyone to stand upright with plenty of overhead space. (Not bloody likely in RL).
