Glad ta be aboard !
Some from "SimHQ" was kind enough to recommend this BBS to me.

I managed to find a very good copy of this excellent simulation & it arrived in the mail yesterday.

It's a MS-DOS CD so when running it in XP I want to use the compatibility mode "Windows95".

I'd rather run it normally than use "DOSBOX".

Any tips on getting it to run, please?

Thanks So Much In Advance!

Do you have "Aces of the Deep" (DOS) or "Command Aces of the Deep" (Win95)?

The first one can be made to run in XP with DOSBOX, but you could also try a much more complicated method to do it directly under a DOS environment, like explained for Silent Hunter 1 here: http://www.subsowespac.org/sh_tech.shtml

Welcome aboard, and good hunting:up:

P.S. don't hesitate to ask any further questions, we are here to help:know:

Thanks for responding, HitMan !

I'd rather not use DOSBox so I'm gonna look at the link you provided & give that a try.

Out of curiosity, what's the problem with DOSBOX? :hmm: It's a very good and non-intrusive method of running old DOS games, I would heartly recommend it:up:

Please forgive the late response but I only have InterNet access on Tuesdays & Wednesdays.

I don't think "DOSBox" has a quote/unquote "problem" it's just that I am such a technoboob -- L O L -- that I'd rather have software that you can just click & play like these Golden Age DOS classics that work flawlessly in XP ....

1] Virtual Reality Studio
2] Flight Simulator ToolKit
3] PinBall Construction Set
4] Red Baron
5] Heroes Of The 357th
6] B-17 Flying Fortress
7] "Secret Weapons Of The LuftWaffe" Demo

And Here's The SWOTL WebSite > [COLOR=#0000ff]http://swotl.home.comcast.net/home.htm (http://"SWOTL" WebSite
8] StarGlider 2
9] The Fool's Errand
10] DOOM
11] Formula One GrandPrix
12] Leisure Suit Larry

Ah I see  don't worry, you are not the only one to think like that. Yet believe me, dedicating some time to learn the basics of DOSBOX is very easy and rewarding on the long run. So if you want to give it a try, just ask here

I would just like to mention that dosbox has an excelent frontend called D.O.G.

Thanks to this the games really are as simple as click and play...after a little configuration that is very easy and basicaly configures itself.

Thanks for that, Capt. GrayWolf !

And by the way -- something's happened since last week lol
I found an "IBM ThinkPad" -- along with some office furniture -- from 1995 !
I've used "Windows95" before & if I remember right you can access MS-DOS directly.
So I'll try ta finagle it from that angle.
Any tips ?

That was my solution, just get a Win95 PC and dedicate it to old subsims (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=114450):yep:

So it'll run OK in "Windows95" -- without "DOSBox" -- without any finagling ?
