Hi all...
May be somebody has the same issue/problem.
I recent changed my NEC Croma Clear CRT by an LCD 19" 5:4 300C, 2000:1 contrast, 4ms, by LG (1900R Phantasy).
Well, compared with my ancient NEC Croma Clear, this LCD LG is just a piece of s@##$, the NEC may be old, but it is superb !
Initially i used the builder program to calibrate the monitor, but it is bad, i can reduce the bright enough, so i decide to unistall the program and use the windows control panel divers settings to adjust it, it work nice, better than LG builder program.
whats the problem...
it looks nice, but when i load up SH IV, play a mission, and tehn back to my desktop, the gamma is changed, windows seems to still taking the SH IV settings instead the control panel settings.
If i go to the control panel or rebbot the computer i recover the settings...
Why SH IV override my OS settings after the sim is closed ?
Any help...will be welcome !!!

Try messing with the game details, set to low/high, if refresh rate available, set exact like the monitor, resolution the same as the monitor.
If nothing happens, try pressing F5 after exiting the game...:hmm:
Update video card drivers?
Had this problem with some games.
Temporary workaround:
In control panel, change resolution and then set it back again at original...

Hmm, I haven't experienced that either... I had the same situation when I've changed from my 19" CRT to my new and shiny 22 LCD widescreen...
Are you using some kind of tweak programs for your graphic card?
Also I would recommend completely uninstalling the drivers, reboot, install new once again... Might help :)
Good luck!

Do you have Catalist 7.4 driver?
Use ATI Tray Tool?

Many thanks GakunGak, MaxT and Anvart..
Happens with diferent drivers version.
F5 makes nothing.
I use 1280x1024 in desktop, but 1024x768 into SH IV.
1280x1024 into sim, droops my FPS.
No other game/sim makes it... only SH IV.
I do not use ATI Tray Tool, i use ATI Tool, to Underclock my card to avoid anoying graphic glitches.

Have you tried to run it windowed (since the full resolution lags anyway)? :)

If low-end video card, try lowering details...:hmm:
If possible, set refresh rate to 75Hz.
Update to latest drivers.
Close all background programs...
Try that.

If possible, set refresh rate to 75Hz.
I think setting the refresh rate on an LCD monitor would not have an effect... :dead:
LCD displays
Much of the discussion of refresh rate does not apply to LCD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCD) monitors. This is because while a phosphor on a CRT will begin to dim as soon as the electron beam passes it, LCD cells open to pass a continuous stream of light, and do not dim until instructed to produce a darker color. Pertaining to LCDs, see also response time (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Response_time) and Input lag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input_lag).

By the way, I found this in MAX PAYNE's manual:
ATI Radeon graphics cards (Radeon, Radeon VE, Mobile Radeon)
We recommend that the D3D Hardware T&L setting is used on all Radeon cards that support it.
ATI Radeon based cards don't support the in-game Gamma control. You should adjust gamma from ATI Radeon's display driver control panel if needed. :hmm:

Heh, I doubt that'll fix it in his case :p
On the other hand... Do you have any Adobe products installed (Like Photoshop, Acrobat Reader etc)? See if you have Adobe Gamma Loader (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=321608) loading at your startup and if it does, remove it and reboot. After that the problem should be solved :)
Proceed as follows:
Click on "Start".
Hover over "Programs" and then over "Startup".
Right-click on the Adobe Gamma Loader and choose "Delete" from the dialog box.

Well, i have a PIV 3.4, ATI X800 XT PE 256mb, 3GB RAM... into 1024x768 i can run the game at full graphics, with antivirus, ACD SEE, Photshop and many other programs like antispyware, antihackers opened into the background with no FPS problems. Most of the time i am tweaking files. :p
Into the control panel... there is a box, (Show only accepted options), and only 60hz is acepted, not 75hz, if i uncheck this box, 75Hz apperas, but not sure, aparently the monitor do not accept more than 60 HZ.

Well... may be the Adobe Gamma Loader is the problem, if i re-enable it, when i rebbot the computer, it makes the same as SH IV, washed my monitor colours overriding my control panel settings.
I disable it and when i rebbot, i have my desired gamma settings, but after run SH IV, when i go out of the sim, it makes the same as the adobe gamma loader, it washed my screen colours overriding my control panel settings.
No other program make this, only SH IV, it seems to "wake up" the adobe gamma loader settings...
The problem is i use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe LightRoom.... i am not sure if i can "kill" this proccess.... :hmm::hmm::hmm:

You can remove the process so it wont start on start-up...
End point : use the monitor's settings (use the buttons on the monitor itself) to override all other settings (software ones).
Good luck

So, the adobe gamma loader starts itself when running SH4, right?
For real, I am not sure how I can help you with that.....:hmm:
During the day, I will fire up Google and CNET to see what can be done.....

I have the proccess shut down, even in this condition, when i use SH IV, and only with SH IV, when close the sim, it seems to overrride my control panel settings.

My monitor has no buttons... the only way to modify it is to install the control program and make all changes by software...
No mechanical buttons...

The builder program is not good, it do not reduce bright enough, so i decide to uninstall it and use my drivers control panel settings, and it works wonderful.... up to i use and close SH IV.
I can live with this, after close SH IV i can go to the drivers control panel, and need to do nothing, only open the tab and all setting back... i do not need to adjust them another time, when i click on the monitor tab, they setting are restored.
I can live with this but it is so anoying...

I am thinking into use Security Task Manager, this program detect any procces into the background and can kill any of them for ever or put any of them into a Quarantine status...
The main problem is i manage digital photografy, and may be i need that procces to manage colour profiles ?

I will try it, but the problem is 1024 is not the monitor native resolution, and desktop and folders text looks horrible at that resolution...

I'm mostly sure it's driver's problem... Have you tried with another version of it? Are you ATI user? Have you tried the Omega drivers?

No... for my previous experience, i never obtain any good thing, and in a couple of times i finished formating my HD. Last time was with Panda Antivirus team...
Any way, nobody report this, may be an uncompatibility with some program in my system.
Sure, related to this monitor, because with my NEC Croma Clear this not happens. :hmm:

Yes i tryied some versions i had stored, i am Omaga user, but this not happen into my NEC Croma Clear, i think so it is related to the new LG 1900R LCD monitor and its own colour profile, the problem i attempt to load up another colur profile and the system dont let me to do it... :hmm:
Hi, Redwine.
I have the same problem with CRT in SH4.
Using ATI Tray Tool (Ray Adams) I have created a default profile (with normal gamma), and after SH4 exit I click a mouse choosing this profile and gamma becomes ОК.
I think a problem in SH4, videocard and driver (all together) ...
With other programs (at me it is a lot of them) all ОК.
You have installed the latest driver for the monitor?

Wel... i wasnt having this issue into the CRT NEC Croma Clear... :hmm::hmm::hmm:
About the reset using Ati Tray Tool... it m,ay be good idea.
I had disabled the ATI Tray Tool, because it Override the ATI Tool, and i need it because, i have another anoying issue, some graphical glitches i solved/fixed underclocking the core and memory of my @##$$ ATI.
How i hate ATI... :damn:
I have some big triangles in the screen, and the only way to solve it is underclocking the video card. I made it with ATI Tool... But the ATI Tray Tool, seems to override this underclocking settings and sett the stock ones, for that i disable ATI Tary Tool fromn Omega Drivers.
I will try your suggestion... but remember me... has ATI Tray Tool a quick button/key to restore default settings ?
You have installed the latest driver for the monitor?
Yes i made it a half dozen of times... :hmm:
No way... :dead:
The only note... i am not using the calibration program of the monitor builder, because i cant reduce enough the monitor bright with it, then the monitor 'burns" my eyes.... then i uninstall it and use windows drivers control panel controls, with them i can obtain a dark screen.
But this produce some issues...
When i open Adobe Photoshop... it gives me and advertence about the monitor colour profile is broken or have some kind of problem, sure, it is because i am using a personalized gamma...
If i reinstall the monitor builder (LG) calibration program, i was able to use or load sRGB colour profile, but now without this program i cant load up it into windows control panel..
It is a night mare... i am thinking into back to a CRT monitor and kill my @##$ ATI and buy an nVidia...
