What's the exact problem you are having? And what program do you use to skin?

I don't know if it has been done but I saw an old photo of a MiG-3 with Za Stalina written on it and a red arrow. Could you do that one for us.

In IL2 1946, the MIG-3 has two skins close to that. One is exactly the same, but with black arrow & without the text. And the other one has plain white wings, but with red arrow and the text. :up:

Just a quick note on the Gladiator skin I posted.

It's an pre-war scheme used by the 73 Squadron RAF. Just to make it clear if someone thinks it's the scheme used back in Malta. :up:

Buuut, dont worry, I'm making a Malta mission that includes the Sea Gladiator skin. ;)

Lol, good point. :p Sure, there's lots of planes to skin, but most of them (allied planes in particular) use the same camo, but with only noseart changed. I want to skin them nice looking Luftwaffe planes. :yep:

Another Guenther Lützow skin. This time from his adventures in Eastern Front with the Jagdgeschwader 51. Couldnt find picture of the top wing camo, so had to improvise. The skin is for the F4 variant, but works on every variant between F-K, just some panel lines will be missing and such.

Straight out of factory BF109E

Got tired of the weathered look 99.99999% of the skins have, so decided to make a clean and shiny Battle of Britain camo for the BF109E series. I know, looks dull without any weathering, but that's how they looked fresh out of paint (as usual, real RLM colors used, except for the nose & tail, the correct color was too dang bright, so made it just a notch darker).

I do mainly Luftwaffe planes, for the simple reason that they have more different schemes they used. Allied planes use pretty much the same schemes, and then it comes down to details to make it look different. Something I'm not good at. I've though about skinning P51's and P47's, but an aluminium look is very hard to make, so havent touched them much.

As for the skinning itself, yes, I do use templates whenever it's possible and I can find one. Mostly Serval's templates as they have good panel lines that fit to any color you decide to use without having to tinker with them. Pretty much all of the templates are in Photoshop .PSD format, so you need Photoshop.

As for where to find templates, I use Simmers Paint Shop (http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/). There's a limit of two or three downloads a day for non-registered users, but it's free to register so. Also, on the same site you find under the 'Colour Swatches' tab, the colors that different airforces used.

EDIT: Oh and if you need any reference pics, http://wp.scn.ru/ that site has tons for every aircraft.

Righto, long time no skins, but that's gonna change over the weekend. Just received some excitement news from an IL2 skinner, Fly_By_Shooter. There's an 109F/G template I've been waiting for a long time for him to release, a real sharp panel lines and all around one of the best templates ever released for IL2. Anywho, he said he's done with skinning and never cleaned the template for release (60+megs the .PSD according to him). But the good news is, that he said to clean it up and release it when he's done.

Just a little note for Dowly, I have stopped skinning for IL2 at present, I only make them now If I need particular skins for a screenshot, saves me having to detail them out in a Photoshop work if the detail is on the skin http://www.screenshotworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/wwwskin_en/smile.gif which BTW is, in actual fact, the reason I started skinning....for screenshots http://www.screenshotworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/wwwskin_en/smile.gif My releasing skins was just something that happened along the way after folk had seen them http://www.screenshotworld.com/forum/style_emoticons/wwwskin_en/smile.gif

Check out a mod called "SKINMOD" at AAA. As far as I know it's the only way.

Yes, but that requires modding. The default skins are packed inside the .SFS files. I dont think I'm allowed to go to any more details here. Google All Aircraft Arcade, that's the main modding forum. Ask there. :up:

it works fine with the skinmod, still there is 1 problem, for example the Blenheim plane is now in Fins marked skin because im playing the Leningrad campaign, but what if i'm going to play the RAF? do i have to change again the skin or is there another solution? :hmm:

Yes, there's only 1 default skin for the Blenheim that the game loads. Easiest would prolly be to gather few skins you know you gonna need (Fin, RAF, desert) to the Blenheim's folder and name them RAFskin1o.tga, Finskin1o.tga etc. etc. That way you got all the skins ready there and all you need to do is rename the skin you need to skin1o.tga.

Or, you could always use the JSGME, make multiple folders of the blenheim with all them different skins and use JSGME to enable and disable the skins as you need them. :yep:

otherwise i could use the unmarked versions and that would be also good for the planes i don't fly , but there is a bug with the marked swither after i installed some mods , i think it was the moreNationAndSquadron mod, the marks don't appear on the planes no more :-?

I'll see if I can put together a tutorial or a strings of tutorials at some point, but here's few points that.

Tho, I dont use any set of techniques to make my shots, it's more like experimenting with stuff and seeing how they work. :DL

Meanwhile, check this site out. Lots of tutorials and other's work there to look and learn from. :salute:

Let's start with an easy one (bitch to skin it is :O:).

Simple Urban Camo pattern (should've prolly checked if the game has one already :DL) with white belly and black/medium grey camo.

REPLACES THE STANDARD SKIN

JSGME ready.

Non-JSGME installation:

Copy the files inside the ZIP to Ka-50/Bazar/TempTextures

Non-JSGME uninstallation:

Delete the files.

Save the image below, add photo(s), save it as 24bit BMP and copy to Ka-50/Bazar/TempTextures this'll add the photo(s) to the panels on both doors.

NOTE: Rename the file so that it has spaces included, photobucket took them out. So, the correct name for the file is KA-50 TABLE ENG.BMP
