When you are letting the game do the figureing for the torpeados solution is there anyway to set a spread when you fire them?..I hope I asked that right.... Also what depth and range should I use if that can be set and if you can do these settings how do you set them?...

I believe you can. Switch the PK screen to the torp setting screen. Dial in your spread for each torp. Just remember, if you move the spread angle wheel it will stay there even if you move to the next torp to fire. It will not go back to zero automatically. On the same screen you can set your depth. You need to know the draft of the vessel you have targeted. For magnetic detonator set it about a foot deeper than the vessels report draft. Beware, some say the torps are running deeper than you set. Personally, I just leave them as they come and fire away!

When your in the scope/TBT view on the left hand side is the PK/torp setting interface. At the lower left hand corner is a switch. This switch will move you back and forth from the torpedo setting screen and PK screen. The wheel for spread angle is here. Simply click on it and move the wheel to the angle you want. All the other torp settings are found here also.

BTW Clay, why are you sorry? I sit here looking at your computer specs and I'm the one who is sorry with my sorry little computer. But hey, I just dumped $2100.00 for sod in my front yard so my grass is better then your grass...LOL.

Looks to be a sweet machine! I just go with what I got. It is either feed, cloth and keep a roof over my two kids heads or get the super computer......hmmmmmmm......nah, I just keep feeding, clothing and keep the roof up. One day when they are up and on their own, then I get the super computer.

I wont have it until the end of this week sir...Back to my original start of this post I cant hit anything with a torpedo even letting the game do the work..I'm afraid I'm going to have to go to the "super gun" mod just to be able to fight the enemy..I can read and I think understand things, dont know why I'm so stupid...

The whole torp shooting buissiness can be a bit hard at times, but stick with it and you should be ok. About the spread knob, just check which way your target is heading in your scope view an apply spread accordingly. If for example the target is heading right in your scope, apply a little right angle on the spread knob (click and drag the knob with your mouse) to fire at the bow of the target. A little left spread will send torps to the ft of your target. It works the other way around if the target is heading to the left. I don't know if my description clarifies anything, but there you go. :)

Ok well let me see where to start here. I don't regularly compute my own solutions(Working my way up to it.) But...Here's how I go about setting up and firing when the computer is computing everything for you.

1. Visually identify target via attack 'scope or with TBT from bridge.
2. Once I have the target in my cross hairs, press 'L' to lock onto target.
3. Open the tab for the PK(Position keeper)/Torpedo settings. When PK is selected the ship type will be displayed at the top. I use this information to set the depth of the torpedo's I play on firing. Torpedo settings can be altered by selecting 'Torpedo Settings' at the bottom of the position keeper. The manual suggests the following depths. I stay pretty true to these but may raise the values if the seas are rough to ensure the torpedo doesn't pass under the target ship.

Battleships 20 feet.
Heavy Cruisers, Carriers, Large Merchants 12 feet.
Light Cruisers, Small Merchants, Submarines 10 feet.
Destroyers 6 feet.

4. I then select the torpedo speed. High if the target is 4500 yds or closer. Slow if its between 4500 and 9000 yds.
5. I always fire my torpedos set to detonate by contact+influence. Just how I do it.
6. I usually don't bother with any type of spread since its so easy to recompute the firing solution for each individual torpedo, unless of course the boat is turning or zig zagging then anything within +/-2 is what I've read recommended.
*Note that each torpedo must be selected by clicking on the tube and selecting their settings. They aren't universal.*

7. I return to the position keeper and lock it in using the button on the bottom right.
8. I then select each tube I plan on firing and press 'q' to open them.
8. I then look at the attack map and wait until the target is in optimal range, angel etc. Before firing I look to make sure my PK is still tracking an accurate line on the attack map. Once these things all look green, I fire both my fish one after the other.

I rarely miss this way. Here however is a great link that details the hunt, step by step for SHIII. It translates to SHIV pretty well. It gives steps for setting up manual solutions.http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=88961

Hope this helped some...

Is the reason I cant move it because I have manual targeting un checked??..If so where the heck do you aim when the AI is doing the targeting???....:damn:

You can aim while locked to the target with the Attack Periscope, or unlock it, still using the AP, choose other places you want torps to hit the target ( again using the AP ), fire away.

Remember to open the tube you selected ( Q ) before you fire, that way there is no delay in your torp being launched.

What is your approach to the ships?

Please let us know what you do to attack the ships...

Exampel:

1) Approach so Im at 90 degrees angel to target
2) Lock the target using the "L" key
3) Open the selected tube using "Q"
4) When the marker is either yellow or green I fire the torpedo
