Hello all Kriegsmarine U-Boat Aces :D

First of all,I would like to express my sincere, greatest gratitude and respect to all members of GWX team, for giving us,Silent Hunter III gamers such a masterpiece (I have no other words to call it) - Grey Wolves Expansion.

On Tuesday,I downloaded this Hyper-Mod,installed it upon my German version of Silent Hunter III and did not recognize it at all.I think, you guys have read tonns of books on World War II Naval Warfare to be able to add those megatonns of new stuff to the amazing game.

In GWX everything shocks and bumps you just after clicking Silent Hunter III-GWX icon on my desktop.First that awesome image of howling wolf with GWX logo.Red-lighted menus and endless authetic movie shown within menu.New flotillas and U-Boat emblems, those I was not actually able to count.:D

Harbours and ports, with detailed infrastructure, multiple villages, little towns along those harbours.Multiple docked warships and submarines docked and moving in and out.

Each country has got now it's own traffic sailing along shores. And map....looks like the detailed "Atlas of the World" now.

Those screams "Yammmiii" when torpedo impacts ship, and awesome "Alaaaaarm" on crash dive.

Especial thanks, for improved graphics, clean new submarine textures, rotating antennas on conning towers, lights in ship's windows, ships red and green front and tail lights.:D

And the biggest thanks for improved framerate on highest settings on my notebook.:D

So,downloaded GWX has been written into two CD's and will be stored alongside my Silent Hunter III DVD for all my future PC's.Game has become immortal. :)

OK,I'am sorry for that long intro - just wanted to share my impressions very much.

In GWX,I started a new campaign with Kiel 7th/13th Flotilla and again was given the most favourite U-Boat,Type VIIB U-47.

Selected the most expensive crew and experienced officer for bow torpedo quarters.

First patrol in September,1939 was successfull to my mind as playing GWX for the first time I sank 1 Large Merchant and two Medium Merchants in the Celtic Sea.

Already in the first patrol I started suffering from such problem - very low crew endurance in Bow Torpedo Quarters and Diesel Qaurters. All crew in other quarters were more or less durable.

After engaging those very first targets Bow Torpedo Quarters crew became that much tired, that refused to do reloading.

OK,I went around Orkney and Shettland Isles back to Skaggerak straight and headed home to Kiel.On way back home, crew in Diesel Quarters became very tired also and refused to control engines so I had to move all of them to Electric Engines Quarters and all crew from Electric Engines Quarters vice versa moved to Diesel Engines Quarters.

So,dealing with those little troubles I reached Kiel.In base,I quallified Bow Torpedo Quarters Officeer into torpedo man and got entire green bar for Bow Torpedo Qaurters.

On my second patrol, crew in Bow Torpedo Quarters did not get tired. But problem with endurance in Diesel quarters still persists, even now on my Third Patrol. So,in any case I have to do vice versa tranfers from Diesel to Electric Engine Quarters.

GWX calculates much less medals than stock SHIII.I intend to award Bow Torpedo Quarters Crew first,so pettyofficers and sailors in Diesel quarters are still not awarded.

Another problem,I have 5/5 officers on my U-47.Three at Rudders, one on Deck casing, and one commanding Bow Torpedo Quarters. So,I can't set extra officer to rise up endurance in Diesel Quarters.

It's already December 25,1939 and crew in Diesels is still very weak, while Electric Engines crew never complains about being tired.

So,Kaleuns, would you give me a piece of advice how to train those guys in Diesel Quarters up?

All advices and recomendations will be appreciated :D

Good Hunting and many juicy targets to all Kaleuns :D

On behalf of the GWX dev team, thank you for your kind words.

My advice is to keep your crew out of the torpedo rooms as much as possible... The torpedo rooms are modelled to be the most stressful place in the boat... and things are made worse by bad weather or battle conditions.

The same is true to a lesser degree in the engine rooms... especially the diesel room. It is also modelled as a high-stress environment in GWX. My advice on this matter is to award qualifications and/or medals to your mechanics as soon as possible to increase their endurance.

Good hunting.:arrgh!:

With each patrol your crew will get better. Promotions and medals will help. Once you get 3 machinist qualified petty officers, your engine room problems will ease.
Very important to have as many qualified in repair as possible. I have an officer and PO. Will get another PO qualified on my retun to base.

A strong repair crew may save your boat.

Good hunting!

I would give the engine room top priority, you have to keep men in there at all time so keeping them happy is well spent medals, skills and promotions. Your watch crew is very important too, probably the most important boys on the boat. And a realy good sonar man could be next in line:hmm:

I always wondered why modelling torpedo rooms as a high stress area, even when no torps are loaded. Historically, torp rooms also held bunks for crewmen, right atop the torpedoes, IIRC. So I think they should be modelled as rather mild stress areas unless reloading takes place. Just my 2 cents.
