Oh, thank god there's still 'Rayman'.
I think sub simmers are screwed. We better make the most of SH4.

They couldnt do any better than modders we have now. They cant access the hardcoded parts without SDK, and no, UBI wont be giving it away.

It looks like the future of sub sims may be with on-line Devs working in conjunction with dedicated sub sim fans who get to test the game in development. With no 'suits' to please, and therefore no corners to cut, the end result has to be better than we've seen.
This could be interesting.
TDK1044,
You hit the nail on the head, it could be the way of the future. Enough customers get together with enough $$ and it can be done. Look at Steel Beast 2 PE.
Wilcke
I do believe this is the way of the future, particularly for a niche market like naval sims, turn based strategy, and similar products. The bad news is that things take a good deal longer to develop and typically have more bugs at initial release (due to limited budget for testing), the good news is that the developers typically stick with the product, even after it's commercial life has dwindled to squash bugs (often with community help).
ex. Matrix Games just released a patch for a turn based strategy game "Uncommon Valor" that was initially released several years ago!

Is that me, or the latest screenshots from v0.2.0 (http://dangerdeep.sourceforge.net/gallery.html) look even better than SH4?

They look fantastic.
The only thing I miss, is a decent shot of some bow-spray...wonder how that looks.
:hmm: It looks better than SH4 I'd say. They look to be doing their subsim the right way. :yep:

Yes and it's been in development for how many years? :shifty: I recall looking at it when I got fed up with SH2 but it was nowhere near complete then.

ttp://www.inpactvirtuel.com/articles/d/63/1.htm (http://www.inpactvirtuel.com/articles/d/63/1.htm) has anyone had a the above problem. in the training stage when you fired a torpedo it showed it coming out of the tube and heading towards the target. When playing career I fire the torpedo and wait and wait to see it either hit or say later it missed. Why is the box coming up to show the fish moving towards the target or something. Is this a problem that needs to be worked out or is it my problem. Also when saving a career why do you lose the ships you have sunk before saving the game. are these a general problem. Also it seems to want to keep you on station for a life time. any help would be appreciated

Seeing as SH4 only recently came out I doubt that SH5 is going to be released next year.

Never underestimate the power of greed.
Never underestimate the power of greed.
Yep, that's what happened with SH3 and 4.... greed and we end up with unfinished sims. Greed will be the undoing of Ubi and their PC games.
I know one way to get them off their dead you know whats... buy stock in Ubi. Then you have the clout to do something and have a say in what they do. :yep: As soon as I get my inheritance, a part of it will go for Ubi stocks. ;) Hmmmm, maybe as a stockholder I can get some of the riff raff fired. LOL

If it's anything like Ubi's treatment of SH4, the hairdryer won't work at all, the nail polish won't show up on the last three fingers of the left hand, environmental effects in your dressing room will cause your lipstick to look transparent and when you tell the sales lady to show you a new dress, she'll just slow down and then finally stop and stand there looking at you.

I can picture it now... Every time I turn on the hairdryer or go to apply my eyeshadow the game CTD!!! :D

I think we should give up on commercial entities making decent simulations. Everyone should get behind these guys, sub sims may have a future yet. Time to cast off the yoke of publishers hell bent on profit, console level content and realism, and utterly dreadful customer support.
I think the future of DECENT PC gaming lies in the hands of 3rd party developers out there. god bless there cotton socks!!!
