In 1939, did the British use ASDIC when the seas got rough. I just did an attack and it is absent. The water has also kicked up. I notice in calm seas I can hear them use it even when I am as deep at 150 meters. I just finished reading 'The Uboat Peril' by Bob Whinney and he writes about how difficult using ASDIC was in rough seas, I wonder if weather is helping me here. I realize later in the war, the ASDIC technology is much better and the Allies know how to use it.
As long as you can operate and torpedoes don't explode prematurely, rough water works in your favor.
You are a lot more difficult to detect in rough seas.

In really rough seas - like 15m/s wind, I find you are basically invisible to asdic when at periscope depth. I've had escorts ping right by me and not clue in to my presence. They only seem to use asdic at really close range in high seas, and from what I've seen they can only track you while they're really close (like < 300m).

I have my waves set to 2x, so in really rough seas at 'periscope depth' I'm on the surface half the time, so they don't need it - they can see me! :gulp:
In the real world yes it degrades performance die to the interaction between the surface and wavefront. In the game it seems to as I have passed close aboard to DD pinging away but in a high sea state. Here is another question though - twice I have escaped attacks by bottoming my ship and letting the skimmers drive around pinging away...has anyone else (undoubtedly) had success in this and how about in late 44 or 45?
