Any advice appreciated. Problem is i got slower network speeds when copying a file from one PC to the other.

Since running broadband i find the network way different compared to how i had it with dial up. With dialup their was the internet and the network. With broadband its like its combined into one.

When i copy a file to the other pc its says 70kbps speed which takes a long time to move a 600mb file just to the other PC, Its like its copying over to the 2nd pc by internet, instead of network:hmm: Copy over the Network should take 1 or 2 minutes for a large file. Network cards are 100bps.

I dont get it, i want it back to how it use to be when i had dialup & the network as two separate setups.

One PC is running Vista Ult, the other WinXP pro. The Winxp PC can copy or grab a file from the vista pc normally which takes minutes to copy over large files. The Vista PC comes up with that 70kbps.

Network is through a hub, connecting two pcs and the DSL modem connected to the hub.

When setting up the network with Vista i let vista do it all, I know i probably need to change some settings manually to get it to work properly. Ive played around with file sharing confurgations but problem still persists.

Please, no "Your problem lies with sucky Vista" blah blah replies :) Just a solution would help.

This is a problem I have come across too, I had been considering changing my network (cable based) to a wireless one so that I could connect laptops to my desktop with no fuss (the laptops being on Vista and Macintosh OSX). I was told that many of the available wireless hubs were 'not guaranteed' to work with Vista (probably a miracle if they worked on OSX too), and so I held off buying one.

The networking on Vista does seem very 'hit and miss' to me, even though I do think the more graphic portrayal is a good idea. So I'd like to hear a solution to the original poster's problem too.
