An episode of the Dutch documentary program "Tegenlicht" about the Israel lobby in the USA:

How subversive! Don't you know there is no such thing like an Israel lobby in the US?

Well, no wonder you don't know! To measure properly, first take your foot out of your mouth.

And replace it with a shoe, I assume. YOUR shoe. No, thanks.

Nice ominous music and transitions in that video. Funny, I just read the Mearshimer and Walt paper last night. You can check it out for yourselves here (http://www.lrb.co.uk/v28/n06/mear01_.html). Dershowitz's reply is amusing with a few serious academic points but lots of slander for the paper apparently being circulated around neo-Nazi websites.

I suppose I'm not convinced that there's a contiguous Jewish entity with an agenda for directing U.S. foreign policy... but of course there are Jews who would like to U.S. to pursue certain avenues of action (I still believe that fraudulant article about the ship carving is a good example). Maybe it's easier to swallow when you consider their disclaimer:

We use ‘the Lobby’ as shorthand for the loose coalition of individuals and organisations who actively work to steer US foreign policy in a pro-Israel direction. This is not meant to suggest that ‘the Lobby’ is a unified movement with a central leadership, or that individuals within it do not disagree on certain issues. Not all Jewish Americans are part of the Lobby, because Israel is not a salient issue for many of them. In a 2004 survey, for example, roughly 36 per cent of American Jews said they were either ‘not very’ or ‘not at all’ emotionally attached to Israel.

That disclaimer is worth it's weight in gold.

Hm, maybe not gold, but you you get the idea. :)

Don't you just love it when you people can't smell the hypocrisy!

From the same libelous report with the lame disclaimer:

"The bottom line is that AIPAC, a de facto agent for a foreign government, has a stranglehold on Congress"

There are a million articles pointing out the falalcies of Walt's and Mearsheimer's excuse for a paper. One for example: Stephen Walt's War with Israel (http://www.americanthinker.com/2006/03/stephen_walts_war_with_israel.html).

Some things never go out of style.

If America seems to support Israel more than the Arab countries, I think it's only because from the American perspective, the Arabs have not proved themselves trustworthy. But I do wonder sometimes if it is because many Israeli's, those who originally came from Europe, are "White".

Many Arab countries siding with the Russians during the Cold War definitely did not help their cause. Even "friendly" Arab countries showed their teeth during the Oil Embargo.

Policies that are considered Pro-Israeli may just be Anti-Arab.

I think I said this before, but I was reading an article in the International Jeruselum Post, and the article complained about the lack of monetary support for Israel from Jews in America, the lack of support for Israel's policies by Jews in America, and the almost complete halt of immigration from America to Israel by Jews in America.

It also talked about the huge amount of support given to Israel by the Christian Far Right.

I also think it is funny the way they talk about "The Lobby". There are undoubtedly folks of Jewish ancestry who support Israel. So what. I'm from New England, and their are a lot of Irish folks from Boston who are Pro-Ireland, and contributors to Sinn Fein.

Don't worry. America is repenting (http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/016560.php).

Why are you so often blowing every small detail to the proportions of a great event? That "disclaimer" holds a precise definition of what they meant by the use of the term "lobby" in the context of that text. Not more, not less. And by coincidence, that defintion to the better part is the same thing what I mean when I spoke of the "Israel lobby in the US" myself. for my own part, there is no anti-judaic sentiment included beyond that, and if I would have had a bad day I would have taken your little picture as a personal insult.

What is excluded from it and what I spare myself to start a debate about is the special political relations between the US and Israel.
