This is sort of a continuation of my First Patrol CTD thread, except that this is good news!
So there I was, finally with a stable running game, off the coast of Honshu on patrol. Only thing is that I was in a freakin' rain squall! Day in and day out!! Heavy seas, rolling over the whole sub!! I had some near misses on contact reports within the first couple of days there. Meaning I could never find them. Then all the rest of the contact reports were way out of my area, No way I would have enough fuel to go trolluping all over the map, so I just stuck to my area. BTW, my patrol objective was complete the moment I arrived, meaning that the star turned grey. Anyway, it was night, pitch black in this squall when all of the sudden, right in front of me were two freighters!! I almost ran into them! In fact, I never saw them clearly. I barely had the time to get to the TBD and get a stern shot off. I never saw the ship, just the yellow triangle. I did have the presence of mind to open the outer door before firing though, as I know that saves you a precious second or two. Got that shot off then brought up the nav map to see where the other ship was. It was a miracle I wasn't rammed! I through the ship into hard turn to port and decided to use the other stern tube. Once again, all I see is the yellow triangle, and I fire my torp. It hits within a minute I was so close. I never had the chance to see the explosion! The second ship went down right away. The first one was still moving, although on fire. And thank God for that fire or else I would have lost it. I saw it before the crew on watch did! I was able to get off a bow shot this time and was able to see the impact and explosion! Pretty freakin' impressive graphics! So I was able to send off a report that I had sunk two freighters, totaling a little over 10,000 tons. Nice.
I have to give kudos to AVGWarhawk for his tips on fuel usage I picked up from another thread. I still have over half a tank of fuel and plenty of time to hunt for more tonnage!
