I know what it looks like using my rig and I''ve seen the screenies of those with stellar rigs, but I still think something has been lost in the rendering of the water. It does'nt look as 'wet' or as 'fluid' as it does in SH3. I dont know if it was the Mods that made SH3's water so awesome or what but the poorer looking quality of the water in SH4 was one of the first things I noticed and was dissapointed in when I played it.
Is the Water in SH4 better than SH3? Does SH4 require an 88xx card to render the 'new' water correctly or am I just not seeing SH4's water for what it is?

I see the water as a large step ahead. This was one of the first A+ ratings of the was for me. I use an ATI 1300 512mb card. I only use the 3D wake the ships and sub create when under way. I also like the blurry effect on the scope plus the underwater alge and blurry effect is also very nice. I tried the 3D water option but saw no difference so turned it off. I also tried the water glare. Did not like that so turned it off. The sun rays through the water are cool but slowed my FPS. Gave me a headache after a while anyway. The caustic lighting on the sides of the ships reflecting off the water are very cool. I leave them on:up: I like the water with exception of no white caps one would see when under light wind.

Thanks AVG, sounds like I need to do some tweeking, perhaps driver wise. I wonder if others using a single 7800 are getting as good water as they have in SH3.
Anybody using a single 7800 card (or in SLI I suppose), what drivers are you using?

I've lived at the Jersey shore most of my life. My dad had boats. My brother had boats. I've never been masochistic enough to want to put myself through all that torture, not to mention the money pit. But I've been out on the water plenty of times, and take it from me, the water rendering is awesome!! It was the first thing that caught my eye! I have a GeForce 7800 GS with 256 RAM. I'm not doing anything special with the graphic settings. I just picked the "high" quality setting. Works for me!!

Thanks MJ, thats how I felt about the water in SH3, spectacular! The only other water in that league that I've seen was in Pacific Fighters. What drivers are you using?

What drivers are you using?
Provider is NVIDIA
Version: 9.1.3.1
Date: 6/1/2006
You know, I bought SH3 and just never had the time to get into it. I did load it, then went through the training missions and saw how much better it was than SH2, which I thought was a step back from SH1. But now that I'm getting into SH4, I'll probably give SH3 another try too. There's just not enough time in the day for all the games I'd like to play! :)
I have PF too but never loaded it. Thought about one day, then saw all the patches that was made and no longer available from the publishers website! At least I couldn't download them. That really spooked me. If I get time one day I'll look for other sources.
Good hunting!!

7800 gs 512mb agp - 2 gigs ddr ram - 3.0 cpu 550 watts ps
run game full tilt with 15 mods jsgme installed
anti viris and other running in back ground shut off.
30-45 fps outside harbor. 90+ at 1024 tc in transit to patrol area.
40 during convoy attack. Ram and shutting off virus and other non esentials makes this game run good and no ctd for me. And everthing is great including water. One of the better features imo.
See if even some this helps for you. Good Luck.
