View Full Version : can we blend SH III and SH IV?

For those of us that are still having major problems with SHIV, would it be possible to blend SH# and SH4? Can we use the ShIII enjine and transfer the sub skins, maps, misisons, sub specs, etc, similar to what was done with the Pacific Aces mod only using the basic components of SHIV? Just a thought. If we could take the best parts of SHI, III and IV and put them together we could really have a great sim,(which is what we all expected UBI to do but apparently they are not interested). Joe S

My guess is that you may get a 'super mod' that combines SH3 / SH4 once a couple of folks do all the work first. Review past postings...

I suggested/wished for an SH3 upgrade by the devs a long time ago...with that name (actually SH3.5: Kaleun's Edition). It's trademarked; pay me five bucks.:p

I've always preferred german u-boats over american submarines anyway, but SHIV has better potential than SHIII. Had it been released bug-free and working like it should have it would only be an improvement I think. Anyway, German U-Boats. And funky missions too... The U-234 run would've been nice to try... Not to mention I-400 and other japanese subs... In fact, Why can't they just make a full blown wwii navy game, with fully rendered ships of all classes and types for all nations in wwii, and in the beginning you could choose to play as a commander of any one of them. Destroyer or battleship? Carrier or submarine? Carriersubmarine? Maybe make it an mmog (without monthly fees). While they're at it, I want my space elevator and cars that run on nonpolluting gravy as well.

Yea, I find myself missing SH 3 when I play 4... there is just something about the uboat... that seems a bit... "tougher" maybe? Its hard to explain... dive deeper, against an enemy that eventually wins.

I, too, like the Ubootwaffe more. First of all, the Uboats are sexxxxxxxy and the submarine action in the Pacific wasnt really nowhere near as dramatic as it was in the Atlantic.

Ahhh the dream that was Enigma Rising Tide. Too bad it wasn't meant to be.

I had all the Atlantic I can stand over the last decade.

I'll stick with the Pacific, and when it gets old I will retire.

Question of the day for me is will it be 6 months or 6 years ?

Going over the files, it seems to me that it would definatly be possible to port at least the uboats from SH3 over to SH4. After that, it would take some work to create the uboat campaign(from scratch most likely).

I think it will happen eventually, once the modders get tired of fixing the bugs, and are looking for something new to do.....

My idea was to make a pacific theater mod for SHIII.. SHIII is very stable and the graphics are acceptable. If we could transport the skins, radar, tdc and targets from SH4 to SH3 we could have a very playable US sub pacific theater sim. JOe S

Ships are possible. The itmes, like radar, shuld not be a the problem...
If I remember, there was a problem with new playable subs...

I normally do not look at machinery in that kind of manner but I have to disagree whole heartedly on the dramatic happenings. Read up on the Batfish sinking three Japanese submarines three nights in a row. Read up on the Wahoo going into small ports and bays to sink enemy vessels. Check out the circle running torpedo in the Tang and how less then 10 submariners from that submarine spent the rest of the war in POW camps. Lots of drama....it is just that the subs came, saw and kicked butt:D . Sorry about the U-boats, just did not keep up with the rest of the group in technology;)

That's the problem, I know the US subs kicked ass. I like being in the receiving end, fighting with everything I have to survive against all odds. Just a personal taste. ;)

(Tho Uboats ARE the sexiest subs ever build) :rotfl:

I agree, the Uboats have that mystic and surrounded by cloak/dagger type atmosphere. Hardship for a common goal type deal.

The jury is still out on the sexy boat deal;). They are both so round, so firm, so fully packed:smug:

SH3 + GWX + SH4's water + (SH4's damage model - mystery damage) = :sunny:

For some reason SH3 keeps pulling me back. I don't know what it is about the game or the Atlantic or the u-boats or what. I try to get into SH4, but I just can't. If I sit down to play one of them I always choose SH3. It's really weird.

I just watched the Top Ten Submarines on tv the other day, btw.
