Wedding plans have tragically been cancelled for a 31-year-old Snowbird pilot who died Friday in a crash at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, leaving his family in shock and looking for answers.

Captain Shawn McCaughey, of Candiac, Que., was in one of a group of planes that were practising manoeuvres during rehearsal for a weekend air show when his aircraft left the formation and pitched into the ground.

Very sad. It seems like the snowbirds have been through some rough times in the past few years.

I saw these guys practicing over Ottawa before Canada day last year, and I hope they'll be back this year (even though they did scare the heck out of me when they roared low over the downtown core out of nowhere in the middle of the day!)

Didnt the Blue Angels also loose one pilot this year, dangerous stuff..
