View Full Version : The Petition for Ubisoft to Value this Community thread

People in fan communities seem to have such low self-esteem. They put up with a lot of crap and get nothing in return.
Where would SH be without this forum and others like it? No mods to make the game work properly. No information on how to do things that the instruction manuel left out. No proper tutorials. No real customer support. No human faces with which to air your valid greivances.
How does Ubisoft repay this gift? By completely ignoring the community. Just like almost every other developer/publisher.
So basically, this thread is just to suggest that Ubisoft start valuing this amazing resource, by communicating with it. Is that too much to ask? You know, a post here, a post there. Let us know about plans for future patches, let us know that our bug lists are being read. Thats all.
Any thoughts?

Only thought I have is that I basically disagree with everything youve stated.
Developers have participated here.
UBI well frankly the corporation probably hardley even know this site exists.

I've just finished posting on the 'Easter Egg' thread, in reply to one of the developers who just made a couple of posts himself.
Many of the improvements to SH4 came in reply to people's complaints, comments and requests from SH3. The Crew Management was changed to have the automatic shift rotation because someone here a year ago commented that SH3 would have been better that way.
They do read these forums, and they do listen.

I completely disagree with you. A couple of the guys from the dev team are members here, and have made posts. A lot of the improvements we see in SHIV were in response to this community's requests. Neal Stevens and members of this community are thanked in the credits of the game....heck, even the stopwatch in the game is a nod to Neal.
What more do you want?

Case rested re: self-esteem.
I've only been on this forum for about a week, clearly you guys have been round a lot lot longer. That said, all I've seen is a couple of devs appearing in what appears to be a personal capacity, responding to isolated points. There doesn't seem to be any decision makers in any kind of official capacity making their presence felt. Thus my points about there being no news on a third patch etc etc.
Without you guys efforts this game really would be unplayable, or unfathomable to new comers like myself. Just think you deserve better thats all.

Speaking for myself I agree that the devs are here, the corporation isn't (probably lawyers), and there has been some, limited-but-productive feed-back in both directions over the years.
What more do I want? An announcement that 1.3 is coming--or not--so I can either uninstall this thing or keep checking here for the patch. The one thing I'm not doing is playing the game in its current state.
And I refuse to join that other thread begging and groveling for a major corporation to deliver what they promised and what I paid for. If they don't I'll act like a good little consumer, boycott them and do my best to persuade friends and family to do the same. But I'm not going to grovel.

I would imagine they're contractually bound not to speak for Ubisoft as a company. They've even stated themselves that if it were up them they'd have made a much grander sub sim, but they can only work with the resources Ubi gives them. Those resources include patches. It's not up to them, its up to Ubi. The developers who post here can't promise anything, unfortunately.

UBI is a multi million dollar coporation... out of France no less.
They have dozens of titles and are one of, if not the largest, game publisher out there.
They also have there own website. I would venture a guess that the the "Suits" of Ubi care very little what is being said here.
The developors do care about what is being said here and there main connection to UBI is financing, promotion (LOL), and distribution.
Self esteem has little to do with it.

Where would it be? I don't know, I only know that when SHI came out and it was damn near perfect, there wasn't as many internets (sic) around as today, neither forums. And frankly, those "valid grievances" and "gifts" are mixed in and almost succumbing in what I percieve as also a lot of "crybaby didn't get his candy" bollocks. My favourite is stuff like people, who can't even tell starboard from port, want to sue Ubisoft because of a 70+ "buglist" where 80% of those bugs are things like the dive planes don't lower occasionally. In SHI you didn't even have an external view except the bridge from which perspective you only saw the tip of the bow. Guess what? Didn't break the game. There are more important issues around, namely the ones Neal has assembled in the 1.3 Patch promotion thread, but they often get burried below a lot of trivial issues.
