I actually got it recently but haven't had a chance to watch it. I'll get to it in the next coupla days and let you know.

Several of my (Russian) friends recommended it to me as a really good movie though.

I also got interested since one of my favorite Russian bands, Kukryniksy, worked on the soundtrack and made a music video for it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Dk1FNnnzzi4 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=K8XcFzgCQJg)

Looks interesting, although it has apparently been criticised for innaccuracies by some Soviet veterans. Still at the end of the day, it's just a movie, and an award-winning one at that, missed it at the cinemas in the UK as it only got a limited release and was on at the Cornerhouse in Manchester for approximately a microsecond I seem to recall.

I ordered it off amazon today as your post reminded me that I meant to get it at some point (PAL subtitled version, since my Russian is best described as 'limited').

Chock :D

Looks good, kinda like a Russian Full Metal Jacket. Worth a watch. :D

Will PAL run on computer DVD players? It won't run on older US players, how about the new ones?

The PAL DVD of the Russian Movie 72 Meters certainly runs on the DVD players in two of my computers, otherwise I couldn't have made that 'SH4 Widows' movie.

I have had some issues in the past with NTSC DVDs not wanting to play on a DVD player in one of my desktop PCs (LITE ON COMBO SOHC-5235K), as it was region specific, I had the option to switch the region of the DVD pop up in a little dialogue box, but for many DVD players, this can only be done a few times before the choice is permanently flashed into the firmware of the DVD player, so I didn't choose to do it.

My Hewlett Packard Pavillion Laptop has absolutely no problem at all with playing DVDs from an region you care to name, and I guess this is because it's a more modern machine.

So my guess would be yes, there would be some way to play the DVD on your computer, but with an older DVD player it may not be ideal.

Well, I bought it.....Not too bad, me thinks:up: . It definetly is the Russian verion of Full Metal Jacket. The drill seargent is crazy, but he's no Lee Emory! The fighting sceans were a little too Hollywood, but there were plenty of Mi-24!!

I bought the NCST version, not PAL, and it had American and Russian subtitles.
