I have been working on the following problem now for 2 days and cannot seem to get any further with it, could someone out there please help.:damn:
Multi installations of SH3 are as follows:-
(a) D:\SilentHunterIII + 1.4patch + JSGME (new unmodded game installation)
(b) D:\(copy of (a) and renamed) GreyWolves + MultiSH3.exe for save file rename to GWX
(c) D:\(copy of (a) and renamed) NYGM + MultiSH3.exe for save file rename to NYG
Mods were then installed as necessary for the different installations.
After running each one the following folders appeared in My Documents folder, +GWX, +SH3 and +NYG all with related data etc.
So far so good ?
I then installed seperate copies of SH3Commander in:-
(a) C:\Programme, for GWX together with the GWX Commander cfg. files.
The Target for this shortcut was then changed from "C:\Programme\SH3 Commander\SH3Cmdr.exe"to:-
"C:\Programme\SH3 Commander\SH3Cmdr.exe" /1:"D:\GreyWolves"
(b) "C:\Program Files, for SilentHunterIII (no change to shortcut target).
(c) "C:\PROGRAMS, for NYGM together with NYGM 2.2 Commander cfg. files.
The Target for this shortcut was then changed from "C:\PROGRAMS\SH3Commander\SH3Cmdr.exe" to:- "C:\PROGRAMS\SH3Commander\SH3Cmdr.exe" /1:"D:\NYGM"
As said, all three installations of the game were run, however when I try to access GreyWolves or NYGM through their repective Commander shortcuts I am only accessed to the STOCK game version.
Please, please, any help on this one, I think that it must lay with the shortcut target naming.
Please note that I am not by any means a PC wizard, I am English but my system is German (as I live here) but I think ?? that I have done everything as should be done.
On the shortcut a mouse right click opens menu with 'Eigenshaft' which when left mouse clicked opens window with 'Verknüpfung' (link) in which is 'Ziel:' (target). This is the line of script which I am changing.
SH3 Commander version is v2.7.0.130

LMAO:D

Get one working correctly first.;)

The first thing I notice (although it's not clear) is that you have used 1 & not l (L) for the switch.

I will put my SH3Cmdr details up as soon as I find them, they're on Subsim somewhere.

EDIT - Just FYI, if you right click and choose 'create shortcut' in each of your SH3Cmdr Installations then you will not need to edit the 'start in' location.

Cool, I'm getting the hang of this search function.;)

Here's my setting for my dual install.....

Target
"C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander-GW\SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent HunterIII-GW"

Start in
"C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander-GW"

Just make sure that you have spaces in all the right places, this was my first mistake when I first tried this.

You need a space between the /l: switch (.....SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program.....)

Just tailor this to your needs.

As Dan said try to have one copy of SH3 working first before moving into other installations. This is how I do it (pasted from an older post)

The way to do multiple installation is simple

1. Install a clean version of SH3 in the C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3
2. Patch it to 1.4b
3. Copy the whole folder and paste it whenever you want the new installation to be. After that rename it to whatever you like. Let's say GWX.
4. Now put the multiSH3 into the GWX folder and run it. When asked put GWX as the default directory where your careers will be saved.
5. After all this install GWX in the GWX folder, make a shortcut to the desctop and you're ready to play.
6. Now you can install the SH3Cmd 2.7 including all the extra Cfg Files (if needed)
7. After the installation is complete you right-click onto the desktop icon. You click on properties and where it say target you type "C:\Program Files\SH3 Commander\SH3Cmdr.exe" /l:"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\GWX. Now this is the example of my SH3Cmd that will check the files in the My Documents\GWX folder that is generated by the C\Program Files\Ubisoft\GWX installation. After that this particular installation of SH3Cmd is linked to that installation of SH (GWX in this case).

I would suggest you do a different installation of SH3Cmd for each different installation of SH you have. That way you don't get the SH3Cmd confused and you don't mess up things.

Also I would suggest to leave the clean patched version of SH3 in the C\Program Files\Ubisoft\SH3 untouched as that way you can always copy it and paste it to add new mods. If you want to make new installations always copy and paste this folder and DO NOT USE the Installer of SH3 again (at least not for as long as the game is already installed)

Yes, that is the mistake that I made, it is not very clear in my printed copy of the MultiSH3 instructions, the lower case L does appear to be the number 1. I must admit that I tried upper case i just in case there was a doubt however I never thought of the letter L, now I feel a real dummy. Many thanks however both to you and melnibonia for your prompt replies and very helpfull guides.
Now the question is, as the save filing system in SH4 appears to be the same as SH3 I wonder if MultiSH3 would work with multi installations of SH4 ??

I think that there is actually a MultiSH4 already available, it should be in the mods section.
