View Full Version : GWX Version?
Hello everyone. Long time lurker here. :)
I downloaded gwx from GameShadow last week, and I wanted to make sure it was the most current version. What I see in my downloads folder is: sh3_greywolves_v110.exe
What I see as the latest patch for gwx on jimbuna's site is 1.03. :o
So how do I tell what version of gwx I have installed? If I need to install the 1.03 patch, do i need to do anything special to install it, or does it install as easy as the executable I downloaded from Game Shadow?
On another note, I have to say that being hunted by destroyers isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Granted, they're alot better than stock sh3, but they're not smoking me like I thought they would. I'm only on year '41 though.
From everything I've ready about gwx, I was quite nervous as I set up for an attack on my first convoy. But all is well so far!

Welcome to Subsim:up:
I would be a little cautious as I can't remember if Gameshadow has a copy of Greywolves & GWX:-?. Greywolves was the first offering from the Greywolves Team whereas GWX is the latest.
To verifiy which version you have installed on your system, when you load SH3 you will be presented with a 'howling wolf' intro if you have GWX installed. The version number will appear on the next loading screen.
Instructions for installing & preparing for GWX & Patches can be found in the manual, which you can view online by clicking on my sig. Also, be advised that all needed files and information is contained on the same site.
I hope this helps.

Welcome aboard ka;eun Tricky :arrgh!:
Enjoy the GWXperience
Yep, I do get the howling wolf upon start up. I'll have to pay more attention and see what version I have.
Here's what I get for talking trash about gwx destroyers.. hehe
Patrol 6, botched a convoy attack and god dc'd to the point where I thought for certain I was dead. Some how, my crew managed to stop heavy flooding in multiple compartments. I ended up sitting on the bottom until they gave up the search. Limped back to port with:
stern tube destroyed
stb and port electric engine destroyed
electric engine room compressor destroyed
port diesel engine destroyed
aft batteries destroyed
con tower heavily damanged
Glad I made it out, though. Playing dead is dead and really didnt want to start over!

BTW, if you see *no* version number on the loading screen under the word "Expansion" (LRHS), then you have GWX 1.0. Click on my sig to d/l 1.03.
No "Expansion" text on the loading screen means that you have the original Grey Wolves. I state this because I'm only aware of GameShadow having TGW1.1 or GWX1.0 available. And the filename you've quoted does sound suspiciously like the original TGW. :hmm:
Thanks for all the help.
The GameShadow file 'sh3_greywolves_v110.exe' would indeed be GWX 1.0 as the loading screen has GWX in the upper left hand corner with 'Expansion' in red in the lower right hand corner, with no version number present.
Downloading 1.03 patch now :)

Did the exact same as you here, but game crashes out to windows each time the loading screen is done in MP (lan and ubi) games. To me V1.10 is greater than 1.03, any chance to clear things up here.. IS 1.03 newer than 1.10??

Do you get the howling wolf intro screen. We need to make sure that you are either GW 1.1 or GWX 1.0. Made by the same team but totally different beasts.;)
this is the filename ive downloaded from GameShadow "sh3_greywolves_v110.exe" exact size is 790 MB (829 206 528 byte).
Yes i got an wolf howling intro.
[edit]
Btw, if you go to Downloads -> Core Files -> "- as a single exe file installer at GameShadow (http://www.gameshadow.com/)" link you just get to a commercial page on their site, it has nothing to do with sh3 or GWX, also the torrent is dead.

Ok, I think Gameshadow has renamed the orginal file that was GWX 1.0;) You indeed have GWX 1.0 installed on your system, you now need to download & install 1.03, which is the newest patch available.

Did that allready, and the game crashes after loading bar is complete. ill try reinstall it all on a clean copy and update my post here.
Thanks in advance for rapid reply.
[Edit]
I now saw that GWX adds JSGME.exe, and if i launch it i get a list of a few GWX mods on the Inactive side. Should i activate all these or will i be ok with these Deactivated?
[Edit 2]
Ok installed and updated to 1.03, Got the howling wolf screen with an animated GWX logo, after that i got an loading screen with an sub firing an torpedo and the version number 1.03 in the lower right corner.
In main menu i get some odd profile info in the top left corner:

The included mods when you install are GWX Officially Approved and you can read about them in the GWX Manual. They can be activated as and when you feel like and when you know what they do and if you feel that you need them.

The name top left is your last loaded career
Your old career may not work in GWX 1.03 so you will need to start a new one
Brag had a similar problem with CTD at the NOT SO LONG AGO
He unistalled and allsorts before trying a new career and all was ok
I see.. thanks for the info.. now the single player missions works, i havnt had the chance to test Multiplayer since none is hosting on ubi servers, and i dont know any large or "active" GWX Hamachi networks.
Oh another thing, even though GWX has about a gig of modified data and extras, i find it odd that it has such significant longer loading times on GWX compared to clean 1.4b. is the world more spawned, more scripts embedded in missions etc? or is it unoptimized textures being used?

The campaign files are double the stock size plus there are a lot more Sea and Air units as well as more AI subs
All takes time to load

Optimized textures are used, with the exception of some hi-res internal U-boat files... (1024x1024)
"Leutnant" is a correct spelling. German pronunciation I believe to be "loitnant."
z.S = zur Sea = Leutnant zur Sea (basic translation= Lieutenant of the Sea)
