Installed Vista Utimate Edition yesterday, i can't see what all the fuss is about when dissing vista, i even dissed it!. This OS is very good, and im ready to throw away XP for good. All my games run, America's Army looks better? Im using the same drivers for my graphics card i had for XP, but it has better picture quality & runs smoother - could be just me. The Menu is a step forward now no side menus all menus are combined into one. Vista Ultimate runs very quick im surprised, Updates are an improvment over XP, and what i like best is the Network, what a breeze.

Only driver problem i had was with my 5n1 Creative Sound Blaster Live. Vista installed its own driver and now has made my 5n1 become a two speaker. Went to creative website and found my sound card is no longer supported so no drivers to enable the surround sound. Still, i have sound.

No problem with games. Vista Ultimate is a beast.:yep::up:

Installed on machine with pretty old hardware.
AMD 2600
2gigs ram ddr 333
Geforce 6200 256
80gig hdd
PCI soundcard CB Live

Did not install on main PC as i was afraid their might be major problems since what ive read and heard about vista so installed on the above pc so if vista spews no worries. Yet i had a smooth run. Installation took approx 20min, and i chose the upgrade installation option.

I dont play SH3 anymore, SH4 yes. I dont think SH3 can run on Vista? Maybe if they brought out a Vista patch it might.

Games i run on Vista Ultimate
America's Army v8
C&C Tiberian Wars
Stalker
SH4
UT2004 (unreal tournament 04)

You have only had Vista for a short time ...
I have had Vista Home Premium for six weeks on my PC and Vista on a Dell E-1505 for two weeks.

I also had problems with sound drivers and Creative 5.1, but my sound is better having to use the mobo's built in sound drivers.

I downloaded some new gadgets for the side panel and upset something. Got blue screens for a week, but the repair function works great. Just put the Vista DVD in the drive and it makes the OS feel better like a baby puppy. Just click normal boot a couple of times or last good config if you have to.

Everytime I boot. Vista wants to report any problems to see if their is a solution for any previous problems. So, I said okay what the hey ... wham it fixed itself. Downloaded and installed the proper patches for office 2000 etc. Now I have very few problems ... Dell notebook works great on Vista too.

I kept my old hdd's with Windows XP handy, but it's been idle for six weeks now. I'm so use to Vista now I wouldn't want to go back. Just treat it like a new learning experience and know that sooner or later we will all be using Vista. :yep:

:hmm: mmm the fuss about it, well

I,m not willing to lay down 600€ for a platform. but thats me I rather spend it on a better system.
I keep it with XP for a while

(600 € I rather spend that on the Geforce 8800GT)

This is not reassuring me into getting Vista. I'd wait till 2008 (and some more relatively positive reports) so I can get a working Vista out of the box. There are enough problems with computers that there's no need to add the OS into the mess.

Thing is Vista Ultimate is a working version in my opinion. Yeah like Geetrue said still too early, maybe ask me in a few months time, but at the moment im pretty rapt with it. Thing that got me, is i read about driver problems galore and old hardware will be a headache, well its the complete oposite in my case

Not trying to sound pro vista, but If its the money holding you back okay fare enough, but if its the rumors dont hold back just DO IT! :D Get Vista Ultimate or Premium edtion now!:yep:

Im off to hug my Vista box:lol:

What I really need now are some significant pluses to Vista. It seems like with each OS generation, the general requirements double. Many programs also claim to require more memory working with newer OSes. Barring imminent obsolescence, it will take some real advantages for me to counternance that. Yeah, there are some improvements, but DOUBLE the system resource requirements?

From what I gather Vista is a gigantic flop - MS will release something different in 2008. It will be based on Vista, but they will have to throw some things overboard that the customers dont embrace. Same happened with Windows Me, and it seems "MeII" is going to be the inofficial name for Vista ..

Apart from that its much too expensive.

Well I've been waiting for the Service Pack to come out b4 I update to Vista which hopefully will have given various companies enough time to provide the drivers needed to run well with Vista.

Can you provide a link for info to the 2008 release you are referring to?

Yup, it is. To put that figure into some sort of context - I live in a two bedroomed house, with a bathroom, kitchen and 2 downstairs living areas (a standard terraced house for the UK) My rent every 4 weeks is £450.00. So, in realistic terms it's £80.00 short of a months rent for me.

I'll stick with my 300 quid copy of XP PRO thanks... no wonder Micro$oft makes so much cash.
