I am looking at upgrading my video card for more SH4 goodness and want to make sure I have the right power supply. I presently have a 450W power supply and an ATI x1650xt and am looking at upgrading to an Nvidia 8800 GTS (or GTX). The GTS has a requirement for a 450W power supply.

My question is the listed requirement for 450W on the video card just for the video card or does the requirement "assume" that it will be powering a CPU, harddrive, CD Drive, etc (i.e. 200W is used for the video card and the remaining 250W is used for the rest of the equipment).

Any insight is appreciated.

Regards,

Brett

If I ran a 450W ps in my config listed below, it might make it past POST. ;) Though I doubt it.

I'd say that 450W is the minimum requirement and if you do any gaming I'd go bigger just to save myself from any downtime in the future. I despise downtime!

Thanks Bobo,

Looks like you have quite the number of harddrives and a pair of processors as well!

My ps is 800W, any less and I'd have to start disconnecting drives.
