I wondered now that SH4 was out there who had come back to SH3 and who plays both? Additionally what mods are you using in your current set ups?

I'm still to make the move to SH4 although may do so later on when there are some worthwhile patches available.

Im sticking with good old SH3. In Sh4 I dont like the new crew managment screen, theres no information about subs/torpedoes/equiptment and the missions never seem to think they've been competed.
In time it will probably be good but im here until then.

I have three seperate installs of SH3 with various super mods and additions that is plenty to keep me out of the casinos!

I have two copies of SH4 sitting in the closet. I will probably wait another 2-3 months to see what direction the dev team is going to take on supporting their "premature baby"! No hurries!

I went out and purchased SHIV, but I can't say that I'm very impressed with it yet. Far too buggy and it just doesn't have the atmosphere that GWX has achieved.

So, I spend most of my free time (not that much ;) ) in SH3 with GWX 1.03, launched from SH3 Commander v2.7.

Once the modders figure out SHIV better and take advantage of the amazing graphics, etc that the SHIV graphical engine offers, then I will probably switch on over. For now, I'll remain a kaleun!

I play SH3 only with GWX and SH3 Commander. The Battle of the Atlantic interests me much, much more than the Pacific war, so for the moment, I don't own SH4 or plan to own it for the forseeable future.

If someone made a ww2 subsim with playable British subs however.....:D

SHIII for me with GWX 1.03 + SH3CMDR mods installed. I bought the Collectors Edition/Deluxe Edition of SHIV and was sorely disappointed with what I'll loosely term 'the crap' that was chucked inside and bored to tears after just a single patrol in game. It just doesn't do it for me to be honest. In many ways it was a step back from what we got with SHIII, no radio room, no Captains bunk etc. Sure, it's pretty to look at but...big deal! Immersion>Eye Candy any day of the week and while SHIV may have more of the right stuff one day, SHIII+GWX has it in bucketloads right here, right now.

This poll is inheiratnly biased. If one played SH4, they are not a "kaleun", nor do they report to BDU. :88) So allow me to introduce myself as the one and only (at the time of this posting, "Sh4 only" vote. My primarly reason for that, is im just waaayyyyyyyy.. waaayyy..waaayyyy burnt out on Sh3. So for a person in my case, the choice of which game, isnt much of a choice, and theres only one place to go, Silent Hunter 4.


Speaking of which, without going into too many details, it has far far more potential then Sh3. It is a diamond in the rough, and it will take it awhile to get it to where Sh3 is now.. at its zenith. It took Sh3 roughly 2 (or is that 3?) years to get to its current state. So i have no illusions about Sh4. As to which mod i use? HA! Err.. well.. my own :roll: (link in sig as always). Alot has been accomplished to improve SH4, and it is undeniably much better now, and its getting "there", but theres still much to be done.

SH3, GWX1.03 and now SH3 Commander
This has acculmulated into THE BEST SUBSIM EVER.
I have been playing for about 2-3 weeks and I've finally gotten the hang of crew management and that happens to be one of the most rewarding aspects of the game. GWX has come into my life and has turned this sim into the most realistic subsim, and now that I'm going to start using SH3 Commander, I can only imagine where this will lead me.
Alas, SH4 is on my shelf. I havent given up hope!

I have begun to remember my crew names, so that when I go to move their watches around I know where this person goes and what slot he goes in. Truly amazing for a subsim. When I think I've seen it all, there is something new right infront of me. Watching the fireworks of a DD going up is something to bring about a "WOW!" I can only imagine what an ammo ship does.

For me SHIV has the potential to be an absolute corker of a subsim, however the problems with it at the moment mean that I'm sticking with SHIII. Mainly because I discovered the wonder which in GWX about a month or two ago and haven't stopped playing! If something like GWX was created for SHIV...well...we can only dream!

One thing I loved about SHIV was the whole *whistle* "change the watch" thing, the crew management is better in some ways than SHIII because there's less micromanagement.

haven't got sh4, bought my sh3 dvd at a 2nd hand goods store for 3 euros

I went back to sh3 for variety from Elder scrolls 3: morrowind since my curent computer wont run Oblivion, surprisingly I do manage to run SH3 with GWX, works like a charm

I used to play vanilla, with some mods for nomographs and whatnot, and sh3 commander (of course) then I reinstalled, had a look here for the latest patches and such, found GWX...

now I'm totally hooked again :D.....stupid GWX, giving me stress, adrenaline flowing, very bad....I'm loosing sleep here....:D

ah well, it's a great game and a great mod :up:

OK, I have a problem, I think sh3 is better game when modded to GWX, plus some others like open hatch, but I think graphics in SH4 are way better.

I think there is a new GWX4 on the way, can some one confirm this? I'm kind of waiting for this as I'm hoping to reinstall SH3 and the new GWX so I dont have to go searching far and wide for all the mods I used to have in SH3, some of the older mod links dont seem to work. I've been away for so long I no longer know what goes with what.

I was hoping to get some new life into sh3 with Iambecomelife's merchant pack, but cant work out if its released or still under construction, kind of hoping it will be included in GWX4.

In a nut shell I have been away for a while, and want to get back into SH3, but cant work out where to go to get all the best mods, can any one offer any advise.

SH3/GWX: plenty for me. The modding community has elevated and enhanced an already decent game - and now we are on the verge of a whole new experience with the new GWX. Also more interested in the Battle of the Atlantic (my uncle fought in it on a patrol frigate). Thank you GWX team and modders!

Having been playing SH3 (set-up in signature below) for just over a week now I'm still AMAZED at all the mods and expansions that are available. It seems endless, and so , therefore, does the playability and lifespan of the game. It's the most engrossing game I've come across, having been playing all kinds of games since the late eighties.

So I'm with just SH3 now and I can't see me wanting SH4 for quite some time to come (plus the fact my current computer would self destruct if I tried SH4 on it! It only just handles SH3, 20 -30 FPS). Therefore I hope this great forum continues to be as popular as it is and the community as a whole stays as strong.

I play Sh3 with gwx 2.0, lite harbor, 16km. I am going to go back to SH4 when The expansion pack comes out for the IXD2 missions.

There is nothing able to beat the atlantic, and after starting sh4 and seeing cardboard crew spinning around, i silently deleted it. what a bummer.

I don´t like the pacific warfare, the american subs and i don´t like sh4, i played it for a month and that´s all, it could have better graphics than sh3 but the gameplay is much much much better in sh3, the u-boats rules the seas. And sh4 is a bit more like an arcade game, sh3 is a really complex subsim.

I play Silent Hunter III only w/ GWX 2.0 and will upgrade to 2.1 when it is released. I use additional mods:

Longer wakes
Binocs
Dam_Tex DT V2
GWX - Alternate load screen - Full Circle
GWX - English Nav Map and Grid Refs
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - Integrated Orders

I play at 80% realism with auto targeting on at the moment.

Just recently came back to SH3 (GWX2) and even more recently configuring SH4 and mods. I play it all from AOD throught SH4. Gave up on SC/DW due to the moronic scenarios which never work right.
