I hate to bother, but what is the proper way to uninstall, and then reinstall SH4 and be sure that everything is clean?
What needs to be done manually for a really fresh reinstallation? Does it create problems not to install any of the addons like game shadow or the 9.0c DX?
Thanks!
Here's what I would do:
1. Uninstall SH4
2. Reboot
3. Delete C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific (if it remains)
4. Delete My Documents\SH4
5. Run a registry scan to remove any leftover entries (free scan at http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm (cleanup scan))
6. Install SH4 (including DX, skip Gameshadow if you want)
7. Patch to 1.2
8. Reboot
9. Defrag the hard drive
10. Game on!

Just one recommendation, install patch 1.1 then patch 1.2 OVER 1.1. Seems some have had issues just going to patch 1.2 and skipping patch 1.1.

I have seen posts were key function was lost or some other thing not working. Player installed patch 1.1 the 1.2 right over it. Problem went away. It could not hurt, files just overwrite.

1. Backup your MODS directory, then uninstall SH4
4. Also Empty Trash, then...
5. Instead of registry cleaning, Defrag your hard drive at #5 BEFORE you install to a fragmented drive. Your install will be naturally near-contiguious if you defrag first, and the install AND defrag itself it will both be faster if you defrag first.
You can defrag again right away if you are anal about it, but using JSGME guarantees that you will be very fragmented very quickly anyway. It is not a knock, just the reality of what it does.
8. Backup the new SH4 1.2 install if you have room, replace your MODS & JSGME, then reboot.
Cleaning the registry is not neccessary for a SH4 re-install. There is nothing of consequence in the registry as far as SH4 goes, it WILL be taken care of in the reinstall. Mucking around with this should be considered a seperate endeavor.
Yep, I can go along with that U-bones.
1. Backup your MODS directory
2. Uninstall SH4
3. Reboot
4. Delete C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific (if it remains)
5. Delete My Documents\SH4
6. Empty the Recycle Bin
7. Defrag the hard drive
8. Install SH4 (including DX, skip Gameshadow if you want)
9. Patch to 1.2 (incrementally or directly)
10. Backup the SH4 install if wanted/possible
11. Restore JSGME and your MODS directory
12. Reboot
13. Game on!

Thanks!
I am a bit baffled, and wanted to start over, I seem to be having CTDs now, after going to 1.2, I never had them before.
Thought a clean install and a some playing, then start re-installing mods, might help me figure out what and where the problem is.
Never had CTD problems before, so there is my issue.
Thanks guys for the pointers.

I would also run a search on your main "C" drive if that is where the SH4 was first installed. I found a few left over files in the Windows Dir which I promptly
deleted before my 2nd install....
