Ok soo i started my career back in 1939 in Wilm, and everytime i go out and head out pass Scapa, i always get reports of a task force that is heading SouthEast, running about a half a grid to the west of Norway, so the second time i saw it i went to check it out.
I was hoping it was a BB group or a CV group but it turned out to be 3 V&W DD, 2 J Class and a whole bunch of Clemsons DDs. My thoughts were that they were heading to the British blockade of Germany. So i attacked them and sunk them and went on my mission.
So its 1943 and im operating in the same area and again im getting reports of the Task Force and again its full of DDs. So wats up with that???? Next time i c it i will take some screenshots of the map, its good for adding some warship tonnage or just to practice ur DD evasive drills, there are some deep waters there. IF you run into it expect to stay under 130m mark for a few hours, hahaha

Could be a specific ASW hunter/killer group? That's all that springs to mind really. I can remember running into them during thick fog once, and they kept me under for at least 6 hours.

Hopefully I am not off track with this post. I don't belive the game-engine tracks your kills in a way that prevents them from showing up again. For gameplay it may be something for the look the other way pile. For example I attacked (more like lucked out and snuck into postion) a task force of a bunch of dd-escorts flanking a carrier & cruiser. Had to save the game and return to it the next day. When I did chance would have it that the task force turned about a bit later and I crossed it's path again. Well guess what the same cruiser I sunk was back in-line.
The Log would sure look funny if I sunk the same ship twice
So I took out a DD, they make for great explosions at night anyhow.

If you were to make a group of 3 armed trawlers it would show as a task force
A convoy with the lead unit as a warship shows as the same

on that note, BBW, a convoy being wolfpacked by AI uboats shows as a circle :hmm:
even if the Uboats have been sunk by the time I arrive on the scene, and even if there are some escorts left (usually damaged and burning)

lol yeah I know I scripted them
The lead unit is the one which gives the designation ie convoy\sub\TF
There are some convoys out there without a sub as a lead unit but still with AI subs attached
If the lead unit is sunk the second unit on the rnd group becomes the leader so if a merchant is lead ship the group will show as a convoy
If that merchant is sunk and the second unit is a warship then the group shows as a TF

Good observation. I kinda 'knew' this but hadn't realised it until you mentioned it!
Nearly all of my recent convoys have included at least one burning escort. I was wondering whether IRL that would be accurate, as most sub attacks would not result in escort damage? Now if the convoy was under air attack that might be different, although the aircraft would presumably also target the merchants etc before escorts?
Having said all of that, burning escorts look really cool and do give a sense of 'something else goin on aprt from my actions'.

...burning escorts look really cool...
Can't argue with that

Not sure why but the AI subs always go for the escorts first
May be its cos the escorts go after them
Though I have seen merchants on fire too

I must say, it's good that they do, once got a radio report about a convoy, it also put 2 seperate warship markers labelled black swan on the map, about 20km back from the convoy also 2 sub markers label type VII, guess they were having a running battle this meant the convoy had 2 less escorts, plus the lead escort was half sunk and on fire, didn't go faster than 5 knts and blew itself up on its first dc run
wolfpacks are groovy :lurk:
